Steam crashing after "Verifying installation..."

I just installed Bazzite on my desktop (nvidia 4080 gpu) and am trying to launch Steam for the first time. Using the Steam icon the little GUI bar opens saying "Verifying installation" and then immediately closes. How can I get Steam to launch? In the terminal I ran bazzite-steam and these are the logs seem fine until it crashes: [2025-02-23 12:57:44] Download skipped: /steam_client_ubuntu12 version 1738026274, installed version 1738026274, existing pending version 0 [2025-02-23 12:57:44] Nothing to do [2025-02-23 12:57:44] Verifying installation... try again with the ujust, sometimes steam craps itself completely, not much else we can suggest

I have run ujust fix-reset-steam 8 times now so I don't think it is going to work

no idea why it is crashing then, you can go more nuclear and remove everything in ~/.local/share/Steam but that will remove any games installed in the main steam library (the one on the main disk) and any saves along with it (if the games dont support cloud sync) past that it could be an issue with steam itself and not something we can fix

This is a fresh install and I don't have any games or saves installed. I went ahead and deleted the contents of the Steam folder but it didn't fix anything either. I went ahead and downloaded the Steam flatpak for now which does launch.

as long as youre not in need of steamVR the flatpak will work fine iirc. you can try the native one later. might be some nvidia and steam incompatibility affecting only a few users as i cant replicate this with amd, intel or nvidia (rtx 2070)
