nvidia deck migration from deck
hi, is it possible to switch from deck to nvidia-deck (I'm on a ROG Ally image) ?

You can rebase to any of the images, but what is your usecase for switching to the bazzite-nvidia-deck image?
I've a razer core X + 3070
I'm using windows for non "handheld" gaming for now but would love to have eGPU under bazzite, I'm considering buying a RX 7800
Note that using the bazzite-nvidia-deck image for an egpu is not a supported configuration. See this thread, you welcome to try if you want though https://discord.com/channels/1072614816579063828/1342784310301818910
It might or might not work but it's not something that the Bazzite devs have tested, or support if there are issues with that configuration
what s the tradeof for rebasing to another image ? will I lose packages ? configs ? I'm not familliar with ostree (? is it relevant ?)
(thx for your answers)
So using a RX 7800 in eGPU would be more supported ?
Since you rebasing from Bazzite to Bazzite there isn't really a tradeoff. Your home folder stays intact and just the packages in the image change. Since you moving from a bazzite-deck to bazzite-deck-nvidia image the only change would be the additional nvidia packages.
oki, thx, is there some kind of backup mechanism ?
You can boot the previous image from grub, so you can go back to what you had before. Or you can run
sudo ostree admin pin 0
to pin your current image for all time if you like.
You might be out of luck https://docs.bazzite.gg/Handheld_and_HTPC_edition/Handheld_Wiki/#egpu-support
If it's a Rog Ally or Z1E it has the Proprietary connector. I think they dropped that in the X iircthx a lot I've learned things to weight my options. I'll read the links you pointed out.
it's a Rog Ally X so it's USB4/TB3 eGPU
Yeah the nvidia GPU will probably still be a problem, but the person in the other thread did seem to come right with it 🤷 .Good luck! 🙂
You can rebase back any time so it's no biggie
I'm not afraid of reinstalling the whole thing but I wanna play more than doing install/config stuff (and for now it's an epic fail lol, dual boot and eGPU on a ROG Ally with ext4 shared partition, mehh :p )
