like if the goal of a model is to drive engagement on the looks they walk on runway she is nearly a full order of magnitude (like actually she is numbers wise this isnt hyperbolic) above the average model

Like obviously we can’t compare these numbers against pre social media but I really don’t think anyone who is a model and solely a model has ever wielded the influence and power that Bella Hadid wields today
Yeah I think it's just a nostalgic glamorization of pre social media days as usual. Plus it was less digitized so you have less of a past record of gaffs and mostly just choice preservation of highlights, so it makes it even easier to paint as bygone halcyon days.
Supermodels have never been hotter or more present culturally. Many might be might be viewed differently or less positively than past incarnations but that has honestly given most more power in the current era of social dynamics.
Love Sora. Quannah Chasinghorse is another model I really like. Love her unapologetic indigenous representation (also activism outside of modeling).
opinions vary on her temperament but winnie harlow is striking, and not just because of her vitiligo
i don't think models in the past had any incentive/as much incentive to engage with the public as much as their modern counterparts
i also can't discount the advantage of having a famous, well-connected family with respect to influence (see also gigi, kaia gerber, kendall jenner who is honestly not that good of a model, willow smith etc)

Because when people need men to sell stuff in fashion they pull people who are famous for other stuff and put them in the campaign
the topic was broached when we did those IG discover page screenshots but the industry does not really elevate male models to supermodel status often

I hateee it. I love the photographers for a lot of those editorials and they do create wonderful portraits... but when it's for a male celeb or model its almost always the most generic editorial shots ever bc that's what the market wants.
Where is the art and drama??? It's ok to be a little ugly and unflattering sometimes for the sake of the clothes
