2nd screen freezing. Not sure of the cause.

I wills tart typing on vesktop on my 2nd screen or even browsing on my 2nd screen. Sometimes just as I click onto my main screen and I will find my 2nd screen just freezes completely. Wondering if anyone has an idea what could be causing this.

arr nm I just had to select my 2nd screen in the drop down and enable it so atm when this bug occurs I have to disconnect my dp and reconnect then in the settings re-add my display to enabled

Are you still using an Nvidia GPU Marko? Did this only start happening recently? It might be a GPU driver regression
Marko aka KDE Enjoyer
Marko aka KDE EnjoyerOPβ€’2mo ago
I am using a nvidia GPU Around the 22nd Jan maybe earlier. THis is the first time I realised I could just unplug the monitor and plug it back in so not sure if it fixes itself after that but has occurred every day since at least a few times

Marko aka KDE EnjoyerOPβ€’2mo ago
Actually I first post about it on the 19th Jan

wolfyreload
wolfyreloadβ€’2mo ago
Yeah I'd rebase to middle of Jan and see if the issue occurs or not. From there you might be able to see what changed. It might also just be a weird kde/wayland/nvidia issue Also are you on the bazzite-nvidia-open image or the older bazzite-nvidia image?

nope the other one and this was not whilst gaming. Actually if I dnt move my mouse to it or do anything it never happens I think weirdly it is being fairly consistant since the first one happened which I would norm restart my entire pc once it occurs

okay if it happens again (as replug seems to be working r eally well atm) then I will try end of dec or something. Only because I think it could have happened a bit before I posted about it Thank you :). Never tried the rebasing before otherwise may have tried earlier. Like I did rebase to test once will figure it out as it seems to be easy to go to a previous version from what u said Aighjt time I try rebase as it still happens sadly if I rebase I basically loose out on updates right?

you get flatpak updates but you loose out on base image updates

MIght be fixed at least now. DOing my best to break it. WIll report back in a week or something or if it happens again lol got to give it a chance to occur though it would norm happen a few times in a day so maybe in a few days I could be typinh on my 2nd screen like now then click to the other then boom this screen frozen or sometimes mid typing on 2nd screen it is just interacting with it often well had 3 youtube videos runnign at one all over the place (gpu relates stuff is my idea) plus bg3 (hdr gamescope) and moving windows rapidly etc. Stuff that could make it happen and nothing. tbc on the next episode Does the image also take you back some gpu drivers?

Marko aka KDE EnjoyerOPβ€’2mo ago
good point will try that I think I saw it but it did not register properly lol 2nd monitor now at 144hz instead of 180 may even leave it like that for now just to see if that does shiz I really hope that is the magic pill. I really like my linux desktop plus it looks nice af now lol
wolfyreload
wolfyreloadβ€’2mo ago
Yeah once you've had a version of Linux working well for a while, you pretty much never want to go back lol Btw can you tell the difference between 60hz and 120hz because I sure can't? lol like 30 vs 60 is huge
Marko aka KDE Enjoyer
Marko aka KDE EnjoyerOPβ€’2mo ago
I can sadly well at least bet ween 165 and that as that was my old main monitor I defo can tell from 240 to that whcih is my current main monitor tbh 2nd monitor does not matter too much refresh wise as long as still smooth but even 60 I can live but I defo feel it with general browsing even agree 30 to 60 defo noticable though
wolfyreload
wolfyreloadβ€’2mo ago
yeah that difference is actually a painful different. Over and above is more just nice to have honestly. Hopefully that refresh rate tip will be the trick to solving this

indeed nice to see your messages come through without a frozen 2nd screen atm lmao well we hit the 30 minute mark and so far so good lol tbc 1h 30 mark soon seems this could really be the solution if nothing by the end of the day marking the refresh rate change of my 2nd monitor as the solution

Yay πŸ™‚ Most random solution ever At least refresh rate makes more sense than clearing the cache
Marko aka KDE Enjoyer
Marko aka KDE EnjoyerOPβ€’2mo ago
one random thing I noticed and not sure if this is because vesktop updated or because I compile vesktop now using a script or something. My games now show me as playing them via vesktop. IN the past I had to use steam maybe because I am not using the flatpak anymore yes maybe I did look at those cache folders and a lot of graphics related cache there I think some things can still be flakey at times with linux but that solution is killer. I will prob post on that reddit to reinforce changing refresh rate works once I know slightly more ofc and change it back but yes never would have expected that to be the fix but I guess whatever manages those changes in display manager bugged out Glad it is not my like customized changes cos I knwo like changing things with plasma layout etc can cause things too

Marko aka KDE Enjoyer
Marko aka KDE EnjoyerOPβ€’2w ago
might be u dnt have adaptive sync just try changing the refresh rate could be just changing display manager settings fixes it in general if u have more than 1 monitor then just try it on both it has something to do with that
Malisz
Maliszβ€’2w ago
So I will have to do it every time I start my Pc? It was fine yesterday after these 2 freezes. And yeah, I do have 2 screens
Marko aka KDE Enjoyer
Marko aka KDE EnjoyerOPβ€’2w ago
no it will just work after u do it for a long long time if not forever I think the display settings initially causes it maybe then messing with them again fixes it no idea why

Ok, weird. Thanks, I will try later today. If it doesn’t work - I’ll be back here to complain πŸ˜…
Marko aka KDE Enjoyer

and yes if it does not work try change something again. Normallyw orks first try but I have no idea why it works or what is happening but my freezes are gone on my end I actually have a worse issue atm than that tbh. I cannot even use the latestr version of bazzite due to blackscreen

Marko aka KDE Enjoyer
Marko aka KDE EnjoyerOPβ€’2w ago
I can say it is a lot rarer for me than that but seems teh frequency may have changed though so could be positive if it happens again then change the refresh again on one of the screens I htink and see if it just completely stops. It could be something that causes this to haopen and the display manager just resets it I dunno. I can say I cannot remember the last time I experienced it
Malisz
