Installer Crash: anaconda 41.35 exception report
Hey There! Iβve been trying to install Bazzite for some days. But I cannot get rid of this Anaconda error. Iβve tried everything I can. But nothing seems to be working. Hereβs a list of the things I tried in proper order.
I tried:
- Re-downloading the ISO Image
- Verifying the ISO Image using a guide from linux mint (https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/verify.html)
- Flashing the ISO with 3 different tools (Rufus, Balena Etcher and Fedora Media Writer)
- Using a different USB Flash Drive
- Using a different SSD to install the OS to
- Using different user credentials rather than the default bazzite credentials
- Flashing the USB on a different PC
- Installing the OS on a different PC
- Plugging the USB on a different USB port
- Using the bazzite-nvidia-open instead of the bazzite-deck-nvidia image
Good to know:
- The PC installing this OS to has a Windows installation on a different NVMe drive.
- The Media Check sometimes results in a fail. Even when flashing with 3 different flash tools, re-downloading the ISO and verifying checksum. And it always fails at around 4,8%
- Iβm using an MSI Motherboard that for some absurd reason has no option to disable fast boot (no idea if this even has impact)
- I'm using the just released bazzite-deck-nvidia image. But even when changing to the bazzite-nvidia-open image, the error still seems to appear the same way like it does with the deck image.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks a lot! π

Update: I've tried these things in the meantime as well without luck:

Hi. What else does the error say?
Can you post the full output of the error log?
Is there a way that I can easily access this log so I can copy-paste it in Discord? When I press quit it just reboots the system.
Just make a few pictures when you scroll down is fine
just gotta find the actual exception, which is not visible
this is only the traceback
Okay! One sec.
@CheckYourFax I tried to be more specific. Does this provide you with more information?

When does the error happen, right when the installer starts?
anaconda is failing to mount a filesystem
can you do CTRL+ALT+F2 while booted in the installer and type
parted -l
?fyi, Iβm installing it on dev/sda

there's already a bazzite installed on the disk, is that correct?
you used to have it installed already?
can /dev/sda be wiped entirely?
that might do something
No. I just tried to install it lots of times. It formats some partitions and then crashes when formatting EFI or doing something with efi.
Iβll try that.
wipefs -a /dev/sda
(not sudo since installer is root π )
type this
then reboot and try to reinstall
are you using automatic partitions?Yes.
Keep it on automatic?

Yes
@CheckYourFax Seems like it crashes on creating the efi on /dev/sda1
Maybe we can make an efi system partition manually before installation
And hopefully it successfully mounts
You could try the advanced custom method of installing
Dual Boot Preliminary and Post-Installation Setup Guide - Bazzite D...
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
Use this guide, but only the bit about the partitions
Under "manual partitioning"
Still no luck

try forcing CSM off from the bios
CSM was off this whole time

you ever tried to install kinoite or silverblue directly?
you can just rebase afterward
Even when using Fedoraβs iso. It does not seem to work.
Anaconda seems to often act up when it runs into a preexisting Fedora grub
May help to wipe just /dev/sda1 or try resetting NVRAM
We already tried that
By
wipefs -a /dev/sda
What you could do however is try another distro to make the efi system partition and let anaconda use it afterwards? As long as the other distros partitions are later wiped it matters nothing
As long as Windows doesn't use it
I can't find anything on the internet about the issueCould this help?

I have gotten times it was passing. Other times it just got stuck on 004.8%
And then throwing in an error
the media test is actually bugged and failing it was pretty normal, did you try to run it without test?
Okay I have absolutely no idea what I did. But it seems to have done the partitioning part correctly.
Itβs now on Deployment Starting
So I assume it got fixed. Iβm gonna try to install this on another drive to double check the problem is gone.
deployment takes a while, so yes, i think you fixed it π
I wish I could post an explanation about what fixed it. But to be fair, I don't even know what made this problem go away. If I figure out later on, I'll post my solution. Thanks you all for helping me!!
