Looking for black boots
Hey there, I’m looking for some black boots that work with wide leg pants and flowy shirts. My budget is about 600usd. I’m partial to suede but would benopejntonogher leathers too.
I’m most torn on the sole. I want to be able to wear these outside. I live in the country so roads are pretty rocky, and I also want them to be able to weather some wet. But I also would like them to be comfortable inside on hard floor.
In terms of aesthetic I’m open, I can see myself going very chunky to match the wide leg sillhouette, or very elegant for the contrast.
I am partial to quality construction, by which I mean in this case welts/soles that can be replaced. But I’m open to more “fashion” oriented boots if I can be convinced that they are well-constructed.
Please let me know if I can provide any more info to help narrow down options.

do you have any thoughts on plain toe, cap toe, broguing, moc toe?
lace up? slip on?
height?
I’m leaning toward moc toe since the other shoes or boots I have are either cap toe, full brogues or plain.
I like the idea of slip on or zips, but I’m open to laces too. Haven’t thought much about height, don’t know how much I care yet
I think Alden might be the only ones making a black suede moc toe
that might be outside of 600
Black rough out is a great leather option, PNW makers use it frequently
Truman, Nick's, White's all solid options. Oiled black roughout is a very moisture resistant leather and hard wearing for bad weather
I’ll check those all out, thanks!
What does PNW mean?
Oh Pacific north west?
Yupp!
The Johnny - Gravel | Tecovas
Toughness with A Softer Side
Why not docs?
I used to own a pair of docs and never really loved them, maybe I didn’t appreciate them enough tho
Those are cool, I’ve never heard of that brand (tecovas)
I didn’t want to prime people’s responses but two pairs I’m looking at are paraboot chambord and la botte gardiane camille
(Tho the latter doesn’t come in suede I think)
Looking into those two more though I don’t think camille will be rugged enough for my use case
Paraboot is pretty robust
I also saw Crockett and jones has a black suede chealsea. A bit over my stated budget but I can save for it.
So right now my top contenders are the paraboot, the c and j, and maybe an Alden if I can find one
if you're looking for sleeker boots, you can look at the various mid level Spanish/Portuguese makers and brands: carmina, tlb majorca, carlos santos, lof and tung, etc. most of these makers have a more advanced made to order programs where you can select leather, color, boot type, for an additional fee. you lose refunds in exchange for getting exactly what you want.
