Fresh Bazzite install doesn't seem to accelerate games with Nvidia GPU
Hi all, I just installed bazzite yesterday and trying to run a game from Steam, it's not accelerating any game with my Nvidia GPU.
Operating System: Bazzite 41
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10.0
Qt Version: 6.8.1
Kernel Version: 6.12.11-205.bazzite.fc41.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor
Memory: 60.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA Graphics Device/PCIe/SSE2
Manufacturer: ASUS
Any ideas on what I can try to resolve it?
I tried to run switcharoo which says the Nvidia GPU is the default (image attached).
Dual booting into windows, every game seems to run fine (installed one copy on an NTFS drive for windows, and another copy on a BTRFS drive for Bazzite), so it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue but an Nvidia/Bazzite/driver/configuration issue.

If you run
nvidia-smi
in the terminal while the game is running. Does it show anything running on the GPU?Hi thanks, looks like a lot of memory is in use but it's only at like 70~W and i'm getting like 10-20fps

It could be a regession in the nvidia 570 drivers. I'd try rebasing to a slightly older image that has the nvidia 565 drivers and see if that makes a difference
You'd use this tool to do that https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/Updates_Rollbacks_and_Rebasing/bazzite_rollback_helper/

Thanks, i'll take a look
Ok I ran
brh rebase stable-41.20250127Which seems to be the latest with Nvidia 565 drivers, but it seems to be failing booting into Bazzite now. I could see it trying to load Bazzite before the login screen, but it just shows an underscore in the top left corner
which nvidia gpu is this?
Rtx 5080
well you need 570 then afaik
for the issue it could be just your gpu is too new
Yeah, I did think that but thought I'd give it a go.
I managed to get back to the desktop environment by rolling back to the latest stable by following this guide
https://youtu.be/gE1ff72g2Gk
Might just have to give it another while I guess until (I assume) Nvidia fixes the issue
yeah, even amd gpu has this issue, they probably focus getting the driver ready for windows first then linux
i'd probably avoid using less than 1-2 months old gpu in linux if possible
Solution
@Mike_ you need to wait for the Nvidia drivers 570.86.16
Currently Bazzite is on 570.86.15, 570.86.16 brings support for RTX 5XXX
Ah, thanks!
For the record I have the same issue with my 5080
😭
It's available on GitHub so I guess we'll just have to wait for the new one to be integrated into Bazzite?

thanks
I noticed the update and ran ujust update.
It was running ok for 30-60 seconds then it seemed to just go to a black screen. I couldn't really do much there - only add or remove desktops, so going to roll back.
Are there any logs I could provide or something?

ok, it just seemed to work loading back in a second time.
I managed to run the MH:Wilds benchmark ok, slower than Win11 but that's to be expected.
It seemed to run FF7 Rebirth flawlessly at 120Hz (that's the highest it goes unless you mod it).

Going to mark this as completed as the driver seems to be in and at least mostly working
