Looking Glass Host on bazzite

does anyone have any idea how to get looking glass working on bazzite as a host (not a client), i'm testing around and found bazzite so i installed on a vm with gpu passthrough, but I've never done passthrough to linux, it is working according to lspci but i need the host apparently for LG so i dont have to switch cables. i tried compiling the host with the client instructions in the bazzite docs but the thing segfaults.

ujust setup-virtualization will walk you through this

@HikariKnight if you have time

but I need the host component do I not? otherwise looking glass says the host application isnt running and drops me to spice though to be fair I'm not even sure I needed that, I have kvmfr setup on the host already

looking-glass host for linux is not maintained, has not been touched in years and none of the looking-glass devs are actively working on it @xored so that is a better question for them than us kvmfr is for when you use the looking-glass client to access the framebuffer of a gpu you gave a windows VM as they are only actively developing the windows host and the linux client

hmmm got it, that's unfortunate

looking glass host: this is for the guest VM looking glass client: this is for the host to connect to the VM

yeah I was just planning to use bazzite to run my linux games virtualized, but it doesn't seem too viable if I have to setup mouse and keyboard and display

so not sure if you just got the applications mixed up or if you are actually trying to use looking glass on a linux VM with a gpu passed through to it

well the linux host has not had any work done on it for a long time IIRC best ask them in their discord about it

is there anything else I can try? spice/virtio/virtgl

alternative is using sunshine/moonlight which is what i do for my testing VMs

xoredOP•2mo ago
that could work but right now bazzite isnt even launching basic apps like firefox i think because of lack of hw accel

until vulkan passthrough gets finished, no other options will work well. opengl passthrough might be good enough for older stuff but you will hit a wall as soon as vulkan hits the picture

got it

so atm the best would be sunshine/moonlight with a dummy plug in the 2nd gpu that you are dedicating to the VM

xoredOP•2mo ago
i'll try that, thanks, hopefully it lets me stream the desktop like the windows version does since I can't even open firefox

as long as you have a gpu passed through with a dummy plug it does let you stream the desktop

is sunshine on bazzite or do i need to do weird stuff like layering?

you will have to make either a bridge connection or a host only connection for the host and vm to talk or use the nat address for the VM when connecting to it
xored
xoredOP•2mo ago
yeah i have a host device for it

doubt auto discovery will work unless its on a separate system if youre using macvtap (or at all if using nat)
