Figure out your chest size and sleeve measurements, and generally avoid ones with holes. Don’t buy ones that are too small - but you can err a little larger. Easiest ones to find that are pretty mass-market and good quality are LL Bean and Woolrich. Orvis, Gant, Eddie Bauer, Brooks Bros also have tons of second hand. Otherwise just whip “(Cable knit, Aran, fisherman, Shetland)” into eBay, and stick to the first “don’t buy small / with holes” rule.
