No sound anywhere regardless of any audio settings
I've just installed bazzite on my desktop and can't get the sound to work at all. I suspect the wrong device is used or something like that but I can't find any way to fix it.
The only possible solution I've found is starting alsamixer from the console and disabling automute (which did nothing for me). The right device would be the HDA Intel PCH (Chip Realtack ALC892) but I have no idea how I get my sound settings to select it as the default audio device.
Edit: I've now found at least a partial solution but I still would like a better one.
The problem is that pipewire has my graphics card hdmi audio set as default and the audio menu doesn't give me the option to switch to my onboard realtek chip.
I was able to force it for now with
wpctl set-default 35
. It still doesn't allow me to use the audio menu to configure it but at least have sound until it can be fixed for real.6 Replies
i kinda have the same. I managed to at least get my monitor's speakers working by changing the profile, but no such luck with headphones that are plugged in into the back of the mobo.
I've found a temporary workaround I hinted at in my edit.
First I've found out which audio device I want to use through the command
pw-cli list-objects Device
. After I had found the right device I used wpctl status
to find the id of the device under audio - sinks and finally forced the use through the command wpctl set-default 35
(obviously the 35 would need to be replaced with the id your target device has)and that, unfortunately does not work
ugh, this is really dumb, but what fixed my headphone audio not coming through was unplugging the mic. I have a combo jack on my case that i used for a mic, and it was apparently interfering.
But now i can't use the mic because as soon as i plug it in - no headphone sound. :NotLikeThis:
the joy and hate of combo jacks. been ages since i used jack plug mics, maybe there exist a splitter to split the mic and headphone channels for the plug?
ugh, idk if that would help me. My headphones are plugged in the back into the mobo jack, and i have a separate simple clip mic that i plug into the case combo jack.
But i think it's rather easier to grab a new mic (usb/bt) because this one isn't great anyway.
But it's a pretty weird thing to encounter anyway
highly recommend usb, bt mics tend to have shit audio on linux
