Orphaned Suit Jacket - To Keep or not to Keep?
Hi folks! Long time lurker, first time poster. Please let me know if this is in the wrong location.
I recently had a rare stroke of luck thrifting, managing to find a lightly worn Spier and Mackay suit jacket (mid-gray/charcoal), which fits me perfectly. However, clearly it was separated from its matching pants at some point in its life.
While I absolutely love the fit, I'm torn as to whether or not it makes sense to keep. Some details such as the jetted pockets might lead me to think it's less versatile than I hoped. So I leave it to you folks, should I keep it or is this a catch and release? If I keep it, what's the best way to wear it? Thanks in advance!

imo toss
while i don't think it being orphaned is a dealbreaker, the fabric, the jetted pockets, and the pick stitching all read as more formal; with enough time on ebay or elsewhere you can likely find an actual blazer or sportcoat for relatively little
if you absolutely want to make this work i would wear contrasting pants, be it a different color chino (navy, dark purple, dark green, maybe a super light gray) or jeans
Agree with the above. This is tough to pull off as a blazer for the reasons zeometer stated. Shame because it looks quite nice.
Yeah this confirms what I was thinking too. Unfortunately eBay in my country is always insanely expensive (95% of the listings all come from other countries and the in-country listings are very limited), but looks like I'll have to keep an eye out for future thrifting!
I once wore a charcoal jacket similar to this one with a pair of light grey dogtooth trousers, white shirt, grey tie and it worked ok(ish) - any other combination I found hard to pull off. My former philosophy proffesor always wore a jacket like this with a pair of light jeans and white ocbds so depends on what you want out of it i suppose
