Secondhand Watch Tips and Seiko Dolce alternatives

Hey y'all, have worn a garmin forerunner for a couple years now and am hoping to replace it with something that is way smaller, thinner, and obviously less ugly (and thus only wear the garmin during activity which is what I got originally got it for). I haven't really worn a watch prior to this one so don't know much about them other then a few weeks of research. Browsing in here and other places online, I've looked at most of Timex, Casio, and Seiko's modern offerings and haven't really been that into them. Looking to secondhand, I really like the look of the gold plated Seiko Dolces I have seen on ebay similar to this one. Two related questions: Any recommendations for stuff to look for when buying watches secondhand, particularly on ebay? (other than look at seller feedback+get one with returns accepted) Any recommendations for similar looking watches either new or secondhand for sub $200? (gold plate, leather band, white face but preferably textured or interesting). It seems these go for around $150 with shipping Thanks!

Gold vermeil/plating wears off over time so harder to find old good condition ones, something to look out for. Would also suggest making sure you understand the watch case sizes and your wrist size. Older watches tend to be reasonably sized so probably don’t need to worry about it being too big, but you may feel like a 36 is too small if you’ve got big wrists. Would stick to quartz for sure, since you’ve got to take a big learning risk with older automatics.
Some other brands you could look into are bulova/tissot/orient/movado/citizen. Even within seiko you could spend forever trying to wade through/discover all the models. White face dress watches are incredibly common, the textured dial less so. Band you can switch out to whatever you want leather wise

I actually find buying direct from other watch enthusiasts/collectors through forums using watchpatrol to be safer and more affordable than buying from a random dealer on Chrono24 or an eBay seller. Collectors tend to be more honest and forthright about the exact condition and often only have watches in good condition in the first place.
