the charge density here (rho) is variable with distance from the center x and the task is to calculate the total charge in the sphere wkt charge density = charge / area, or rather charge = charge density * area so a small element of the sphere (a thin, hollow shell) has been taken at an arbitrary distance x which has charge dq we then know that dq = charge density * area of the thin slice integrate both sides with limits 0 to R if you're confused about this whole process of taking elements, eduniti has a video on it
