parka recs?
i guess i don't know what i actually want from a new parka - sure i want it to be warm, but i also want it to have cool details, and somewhat slim
I find myself drawn to south korean parkas - frizmworks karakoram and eastlogue utility shield - but they look a bit bulky
what do you guys think ? can you point me in some other directions?

i have a frizmworks karakoram, it's definitely bulky but you can tweak the fit a bit with the pullcords. most importantly though it is warm as hell
i also sized up a lil though because the korean sizing put me between two
more vintage? or more modern? wonder mountain styling on instagram always has great city boy fits that lean more towards urban technical wear
im sure you could find something there and then look at those brands
pics?
i'll check them out, i think i want more vintage/heritage - my entire wardrobe is heading in that direction
i don't know what it's called but i especially like when the buttons are held by hooks?
i think it's a military-esque style
^ thats an all saints parka, but it doesn't have any down fill
those are present on the n3b
you want it longer? or waist length
Puffy jackets look weird when they're slim
If you want a warm slim jacket a down parka probably isn't the move
Side note down parkas are very warm which is good but not so good for being active in the cold. Military surplus is also a great way to get good parkas for relatively cheap. Also look at mountaneering brands like arcteryx or outdoor research for slimmer builds
don't mind if it goes to mid-thigh
ok well i mean the n3b fits if you want something vintage and are fine with military.
im sure someone like a kaptain sunshine does an interesting variation on it if you want something more unique
hmmm i see that too
like in the left pic, i think it's too bulky
but in the right pic it looks ok?
the right one makes me think the person underneath is tiny for some reason lol
Anything insulated is gonna be bulkier because of insulation works. If you want slimmer looking then go for the activewear brands
Arc'teryx Equipment
Ralle Down Parka Men's
Our warmest Ralle combines goose down’s warmth with GORE-TEX weather protection.
lmao i cant unsee it now
MUJI USA
Men's Water Repellent Stand Collar Down Coat

beyond the n3b, there's also a fireman's jacket (left, with metal clasps) or duffle coat (right, with wood pegs)
Also this is one of my favorite parkas, not insulated but has a liner https://www.americanapipedream.com/collections/new-this-week/products/issued-west-german-bw-parka-w-liner

fwiw you may also be able to find a vintage n3b that reads more 'heritage'
mountain parkas may also be worthwhile https://www.heddels.com/2021/02/five-plus-one-mountain-parkas-tbc/

wheres my n1b croptop parka
military n3bs vary depending on when they were made, early ones used a different fabric and had a coyote fur hood, more modern ones switched to synthetic fur and nylon
these are all good recs, i'm definitely leaning towards something like this vs the arcteryx
Just know that they will be big, military insulated parkas are designed for when it gets cold cold and they don’t care about being puffy/big.
The one on the righ tlooks way too tight. It's also cinched.
looks good on you, i think my pants are slim fit for the most part and i wonder if that would look weird together
Fair enough. I bought this jacket when I was about 20lbs heavier so that also factors into the bulk, I maybe could've sized down a bit.
You could go for an m-65 parka with the liner. They're less bulky but still warm, without having an ugly slim cut
(or an m-51 if you need something even wamer)
Is that the fishtail one? Doesnt it kinda look weird from the back?
Looking for designer recs for the n3b and m65 if anyone has any - I keep coming across the alpha industries one which I think is too shiny
It’s because they’re nylon, Mil spec is nylon since it dries fast. Could try and hunt down an original n3b those were cotton with wool insulation
Likely out of stock in my size but this is frizmworks and doesn't seem too shiny
They'll both look something like this from the back. I don't think it looks weird
I have an alpha industries n3b and it looks exactly that shiny
Buzz Ricksons, Toys McCoy if you're after a high end one.
Bronson on more of a budget.
(They'll still have a nylon shell since it's a distinguishing feature of the jacket)
Pic of fits with it ?
sorry aint got none
For what it’s worth this looks bulkier than the Karakoram to me.
If you do go Frizmworks you can buy direct from them and it’s usually wayyyyyy cheaper than paying inflated import prices at US/CAN/EU stores
Gaahhhh idk wtf I want guys
I think it'd be worth trying on some of the ones u think fit bulky because imo nothing in this thread looks bulky to my eye
might just be not what you're used to is what i mean
