Jewelry and Accessories fiends assemble

I am a 25yr old man in southern louisiana. Accessories aren’t really a common theme here when it comes to men. Other than watches and wedding rings you don’t see much expression in the form of accessories, or really at all regarding fashion. What are some tips and tricks for a larger guy with larger hands (have to get sized) to find and experiment with accessorizing!? (i know i could just watch youtube videos but i love to see seasoned and fashionable people discuss and impart their own knowledge and experience!!! I’d love to experiment with rings, bracelets, ties and fabrics and really find a solid base of creativity to develop. My budget would be 100$ or less and the goal is creative expression with concentration on spending as little as possible. I typically wear button ups/polos/knitwear and slacks with dress shoes as i don’t really have any experience with street wear

For getting your ring sized, a lot of jewelry places will give (or mail) you a free ring sizing band.

Do you have anywhere local you can go to try a bunch of things on? That's what works for me. A lot of things I didn't think I liked (from product pictures online) I really liked on, and vice versa Are you interested in metals? Which ones? Or are you looking at string bracelets? Are you interested in layering or stacking? etc

thank you good idea!!

Re ring sizing - sometimes a thinner ring will need a smaller ring size and you could size up on a thicker one - so it def helps to try things on to see how they fit. Sometimes a thick band in your usual size can feel tight

secondhand shops & antique stores are soooo good for finding inexpensive jewelry or like adime said just trying it on Also fwiw from the fits you've posted so far, a handful of silver and turquoise rings would be right at home.

from super small country town i think i have a flea market close but im not certain. i would have to drive an hour or two if not! as to the questions of what kinds of bracelets, and if i would stack, i genuinely can’t answer that…i’m really starting from mental and creative scratch rn lol I think i was kinda leaning towards silver as well!! Gold kinda looks weird on me but maybe i just assume it does Coming away from a rough breakup with a very stylish girl and i now have to lean on ME to be stylish and creative! Learning how to do ts myself

Silver is relatively cheap, especially if you go to flea markets. You might have to polish them as they tarnish, depending on your environment and skin chemistry. You might look into stainless steel as well, but I'm not familiar with pricing there Gold you may need to play with the tone (pinker, more beige, etc) - but tbh with your budget gold is out of reach or you'd get plated, which wears off pretty quickly

Good point! Im gonna do some research on local flea markets and antique shops from your recommendation Does anyone have any experience styling rags, bandanas and other fabrics?
adime
adime6d ago
maybe @midi has suggestions? i wear scarves but i wouldn't say i'm good at it lol folded bandana around wrist with jewelry might be something to play around with bandana on your bag strap/somewhere on your bag also something to consider
levi
leviOP6d ago
Wait great idea! i’m glad you mentioned a bag i need to look for totes
adime
adime6d ago
i've wanted to play around with a mesh tote lined with a scarf/bandana but i think from a practical standpoint it wouldn't work well bc everything would be at risk of falling out but i like the idea of this for a summer/beach bag

i don't wanna work this is a great distraction oh i would avoid tungsten for rings if you come across it in your research it's better from a safety standpoint to wear soft metals so you don't accidentally deglove ur finger

This is so awesome this is exactly the kind of info i was looking for is this a bandana ring that’s holding it in place? is that what is called
artvandelayimporting
nah I'm pretty sure it's just a regular ring they make bandana specific rings but you can accomplish the same thing with just about any old ring

searching ring scarf will get you a lot of results some of them come in fun shapes that can add interest to how you tie the scarf

I have an idea. What about using a chain with a loop on the end to cinch it tight and have the excess chain dangle with the bandana i literally didn’t know this stuff existed

The sense of masculinity within clothing culture in the south is horrid and dressing out is really rare so i have had nooooo experience in real life with people who dress well

I come from a city thats pretty conservative about styling and chains are still very common
levi
leviOP6d ago
Keyword is city
Spuck
Spuck6d ago
Theres definitely a bit of realizing generally people wont care I mean Im from the absolute sticks originally so I get you
levi
leviOP6d ago
The closest “city” to me is like an hourish rn lmaooo but only the three bigger cities in louisiana are more liberal with styling and fashion baton rouge, lafayette, and new orleans

i realized this is the way that i want to learn how to express myself i’m not a creator or an innovator, but i can take what has been made and put a spin on it and that’s okay I also realized that the way i dressed cannot and does not signify my sexuality or masculinity as much as people like to try and act Just learning how to be masculine in a way that is bright and colorful and lovely

i think the idea of masculinity has been warped over the past couple decades but i think just being a good person, secure in one's self, is the way most of my jewelry came from flea markets and the odd estate sale, where i'm able to ad-hoc try stuff on and get a deal ring sizers online are fairly inexpensive and can be a good investment if purchasing rings online

i think sometimes i psych myself out of wearing a bandana out of not wanting to stand out but i also live in middle of nyc (and it technically shouldn't matter) but i think tote bags are def giga value i have like 3 different tote bags and i just kinda throw whatever on

Ooh that looks so cool! Not really something I could see myself wearing but I bet you’ll rock it! Life gets so much better when you allow yourself to open up to others
