so C1-C2 pe Pi character zyada hai therefore Lenght kam hogi
C1-C2 has more double bond character and double bonds are shorter than single bonds so yeah
Naphthalene doesn't have equivalent resonating structures, hence we have to look at the situation of each carbon in the 3 structures
Like for c1-c2 do baar double bond aa raha hai to uska double bond character zyada hoga
For c2-c3 do baar single bond aa raha hai to uska single bond character zyada hoga
These particular type of questions are important w.r.t JEE and many students get it wrong in the first attempt so star mark these questions
Is this even in the syllabus,
?
its based off of fundamental concepts i'd hope it is
i think this is the approach:
double bonds are shorter, single bonds are longer
now we know from resonance that in reality, the compound exists as a resonance hybrid, meaning some bonds have more double bond character than other bonds
so draw the resonance structures of naphthalene, and check which bonds have more double bonded reso structures (they would be smaller) and which have more single bonded reso structures (they would be bigger)
acha got it...thanks people
