Alternative to Tebex

Me and the owner have a server that’s currently running on Tebex but it doesn’t really support more modern versions of Minecraft with sponge, what would be a good modern alternative?

are you running a sponge vanilla server?
Miv
MivOP2mo ago
no, sponge modded
Snow Kit

[neo]forge? or fabric
Miv

pretty certain its forge yeah, forge

you could probably pay someone to port https://github.com/tebexio/Tebex-Minecraft to your version of forge and/or sponge I wrote a long thing over here about why sponge isn't amazing https://discord.com/channels/348681414260293634/1321962151048511539/1321994499886678046 from a developer's perspective. Although arclight (and other bukkit + forge solutions) do have issues, they're a lot more stable these days. The quality of Bukkit plugins just tends to be higher than sponge plugins as well

we originally used arclight and had so many issues so we swapped over to a different hoster of which i dont remember the name of it would crash 3-4 times a day to no avail, and support couldn't help I think its apex that we're on now but i could definitely be wrong

if you're able to compile stuff on your own, you can try to compile https://github.com/AlphaConqueror/Tebex-NeoForge/tree/NeoForged

we're on craftlands hosting

we were able to drop tebex by coding our own website to talk to the server instead. undercut them fs maybe you can find someone with a similar skill set
Snow Kit

https://craftingstore.net also exists, they claim to have sponge support, but idk what version of sponge they support
Exos

Azuriom, it’s a full website suite that includes a shop plugin. Free and open source, you can use RCON to hook it to the server.

Thank you three for the input! It’s been a lot of help and shed a lot of light on how horrible tebex is and what alternatives we can port to :)

tebex is by no means terrible btw good chargeback protection costs money
Casper
Casper4w ago
they don't have good charge back protection tho Id rather do it myself
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
Ive never heard of issues with it but maybe thats just me

100% chargeback protection is pretty good to me what

There is a method to take down a server's store for one to two whole months.
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
dont see hypixels store going down maybe there is but i havent seen it /shrug/
Casper
Casper4w ago
Yeah but no, it isn't that, they'll lock your account or take funds from you if you get too big chargebacks
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
never seen that happen interesting, their policy says the exact opposite aswell
Casper
Casper4w ago
Ok
qvaras
qvaras4w ago
I have had that happen to me going through tebex support to get my store unlocked took around a month
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
chargeback taking money from you or the "method"?
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
odd considering they are a MOR (tebex) so should handle all chargebacks etc (and then they have their policy that states they handle all chargebacks and just pay out of pocket)

qvaras
qvaras4w ago
im not sure what "the method" is
ProGamingDk

qvaras4w ago
but what happened was a customers credit card company detected tebex as fraud and charged back for him, tebex protected this, but in return our store was shut down and then we had to go through tebex support to get it back up tebex is still best imo, but that wasnt a great experience

Just use stripe 😊

Stripe Checkout + Radar is the golden ticket
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
golden ticket? as in
dan
dan4w ago
the solution that'll work for 99.999999% of your usecases
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
i was actually kind of joking since with stripe checkout only you will get charged money when there's a chargeback radar is very effective sure i wonder how tebex offers full chargeback insurance without losing very large amounts of money 🤔
dan
dan4w ago
Stripe chargeback protection is 0.4% of your sale Annual limit of like 20,000-25,000 depending on currency exch
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
yeah but what about tebex they offer full protection so it seems very impossible
dan
dan4w ago
tebex is literally just taking standard stripe chargeback protection and adding their own fees onto sure they'll possibly use some of their own filtering for cards they've seen before inhouse to reduce the reliance on stripe but ultimately they're a stripe house

Life is strange, chargebacks are fightable
Casper
Casper4w ago
I really like how markus's system handles them because there are precaution checks, confirmation of the purchase in-game to help prevent false charges & it generates a pdf of evidence for you to send to a payment processor in the case you do get a charge back
xMarkus
xMarkus4w ago
We have some stats about efficiency of the fighting chargeback tools and 92% of all chargebacks were won (starts with 3.0 update).

Jenkins

man go lighter on me i'm sick as fuck
Casper

not if you win an appeal Iirc
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
Stripe says otherwise iirc but not sure
Casper
Casper4w ago
tbf id rather take a fee than lose all the money
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
Stripe's chargeback fee is $15 per dispute. They won't refund the fee if you win a chargeback

Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
what im more worried abt in the case of chargeback protection isnt losing the purchase money
Casper
Casper4w ago
Mine store CMS has things to prevent transactions going through that are sketchy
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
its having 20 small purchases get charged back and oop there goes $300 fair enough
Casper
Casper4w ago
Yeah that doesn't make you safe with tebex tho
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
but thats the use case i think tebex is useful for
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
When you had your money taken from your wallet on tebex from a chargeback were you following the seller protection guidelines?
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
why not
Casper
Casper4w ago
no not me, this is from private MC server owner chats I see the horror stories of I got a 4k charge back and now my wallet is locked
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
4k in game or 4k worth of cb fees
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
Investigation of a chargeback on a 4k order is normal no??
Casper
Casper4w ago
no?
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
cause honestly their fault if they be charging people 4k for mc shit
Casper
Casper4w ago
bad take
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago

Casper
Casper4w ago
no lmao Against Eula
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
what if i was joking is that also against the eula
Casper
Casper4w ago
Yes
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
id bet anything being sold for 4k is against eula too lets be real
Casper
Casper4w ago
no?
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
$4000 for owner is a pretty good deal if you ask me
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
nobodys buying cosmetics for 4k
Casper
Casper4w ago
hahahah you are very wrong source: I own a server
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
youre selling shit for $4000?
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
and single people have spent 4k for cosmetics?
Casper
Casper4w ago
No, way more
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
well over the years is different than a single purchase thats what we meant 😭
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
you cant chargeback "over the years"
Casper
Casper4w ago
No it's not a single 4k transaction Yes you can
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
exactly
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
can you cb years old transactions?
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
thats different
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
pretty sure thats just not a thing
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
hey, yes i have been consistently buying from this company for 5 years, yes i want to chargeback all of it
Casper
Casper4w ago
yep
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
if anything thats likely to get your chargeback denied extremely easily
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
that cant be a thing
Casper
Casper4w ago
Nope I've seen it work
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
ive never seen anything more than half a year
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
Stripe says the normal is 120
Casper
Casper4w ago
Normal what
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
120 days for chargeback As in how long you have
Casper
Casper4w ago
Oh great Wonder if I can force stripr
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
No description
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
but yeah id rather have to deal with tebex beauracracy than eat 3k in cb fees
Casper
Casper4w ago
I don't agree Just leaving it at that
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
id probably like stripe more if you could just enable their .4% thing at any time
Casper
Casper4w ago
Wdym
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
you need approval
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
Professor pays like 2.9% + 30 cents with it on
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
3.3% id think
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
wtf
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
And thats for domestic cards
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
unless he has a custom deal with stripe its .4% on top of the 2.9%
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
almost $1 of fees for $20 is wild
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
Wild, so only 1.7% less than tebex but with chargeback fees? Not counting the flat fee
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
i thought tebex charged their fee on top of the processing fees
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
Not sure
Casper
Casper4w ago
you have heard my warnings, if you choose to ignore them, suffer
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
pretty sure they take the full 5%, not the difference between the 5% and the 2.9%
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
Not what i meant
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
what do you mean then u said 1.7% less than tebex but its not on tebex to my knowledge first stripe takes their 2.9% + 30c then tebex taxes 5% on whats left so its actually a good bit cheaper
Jenkins
Jenkins4w ago
No description
ProGamingDk
ProGamingDk4w ago
I forgot the stripe section in the first place* On tebex
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
lmao that is a bit silly i mean doesnt stripe also only cover a max of 25k tho
Casper
Casper4w ago
you need more than 25k income in a year as a server
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
if u got players spending 4k and chargebacking years of purchases i guess losing like 2k on cb fees isnt a big deal but i think youd eat 6k to the cb protection if you used stripe thing which is unfortunate idk im just a chargeback fee hater
xMarkus
xMarkus4w ago
afaik, mollie.com has better conditions when we speak about chargebacks
padre
padre4w ago
you have documents to provide in case of any chargebacks or refunds i had some issues with a guy that tried to refund over $500 and I provided just minestore’s documents and I’ve won the dispute
Rompepitas
Rompepitas4w ago
Well , then I guess you don't know how to sell inside your server. :jujij:
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
i dont run one silly billy i guess i just overestimated the intelligence of humans
Rompepitas
Rompepitas4w ago
anyway I can tell you from my own experience that a minecraft server can generate more than 5k $ per month
Cooleg
Cooleg4w ago
completely different metric than what i was saying but ok
