Does the Discord Overlay disable myself from seeing who is in the call ingame?

I have disabled the overlay so that pressing alt + , or whatever wouldn't make a giant window pop up out of nowhere... But now I don't see my friends in any call? Is that just a glitch that I encountered or is the Discord Overlay acting over that as well?
