Sweater fit check

I bought two sweaters from Spier and Mackay. I think the green one fits well overall, maybe a bit long? The brown one is kinda too big at the sleeves and also a bit long. They're 100% cotton, not sure if they'll shrink a bit in the wash? I'm also new to taking fit pics so please let me know if I should add any pics or how to better take them in the future.

I think both fit good, brown doesn't look big (if anything, yes sleeves are a bit long but nothing excessive).

I personally like raising the ribbed portions of a sweater (sleeve cuffs and hem) to mitigate that feeling you're describing, the sweater will fold itself over those sections as a result I think the brown sweater will look a lot better after you make that happen

They shouldn't shrink if you wash cold and air dry or dry low.

Ah I guess I'm worried it will cause that potbelly look. Do you mean just raising it a bit higher? I was thinking of returning the brown one so it should be fine as it is right now then?

Oh shit lol, how do y'all have the eye for this?? Any tips on spotting if something fits well or not? I could've sworn it was too big lol

Well it really comes down to what your prefer, cable knit sweaters are usually thick in material thus it’s easier to slip with a bigger size. But at the end it comes down to how you like to dress If you were going for like a sweater over a button up or a shirt I’d prolly go a size smaller so it doesn’t look baggy but it’s really not that noticeable

Yes the sleeves are slightly long on the brown one, but I would much prefer something be slightly oversized than slightly undersized. As it is it looks fine to me The cable knit looks nicer in general to my eyes - I am not a huge fan of thinner cotton sweaters because I find they can drape oddly and the cable knit has enough heft and structure to it where that isn't a problem

Oh is it because the thicker texture helps preserve the shape even though it's bigger? I was thinking about using these sweater to go over a button up so for layering over button ups, slimmer fit is preferred? Ah makes sense. Yeah I like the texture and pattern of cable knit more as well, but I was just worried about the fit being too big. I'm probably too used to slim fitting clothes. How do you know if it's oversized but not sloppy looking?

The quality seems good so I'd keep them otherwise I'll try a different brand because they already fit you well, it's just the sleeves... Sizing down isn't an option.... Long sleeves can be annoying and i mentioned above about the quality because bad quality's ribbed will get loose after a few washes so no matter how many many types you raise the sleeves it'll keep falling.

Well yeah but most of the time brands don’t have that sweet spot where its not too loose and not too slim it’s most of the time it’s either small or slightly bigger so if the smaller one fits you better cool but it might be smaller than what you want A fix for this is prolly going to a tailor so you could even get a better fit but it really depends on if it’s a good tailor or not

I just cuff the sleeves

I borrow my partners hair ties when the sleeves get loose. Sometimes I fold in the bottom hem if I want to crop the length, or if it’s creasing too much.
