Bazzite gone after Dual-Booting into Windows on ROG Ally X
Hey all, I booted into Windows recently and the option to boot into Bazzite has disappeared from my boot options. I can only boot into Windows and the only other option giving me a looping boot screen.
I followed this thread, but I’m having no luck: https://www.answeroverflow.com/m/1316221468581036055
If I were to reinstall Bazzite on an external drive again, would all my files and games need to be reinstalled? Thanks!
Bazzite No Longer a Boot Option (for Dual Boot Windows/Bazzite on R...
Hi, I set up dual boot Windows and Bazzite on my new Ally X a few weeks ago using a partitioned SSD. It was working great until last night I booted into Windows to play some games on that side. Maybe Windows applied some automatic updates that messed up how Bazzite boots, because now I can only boot into Windows. Fedora/Bazzite is no longer an o...

Anybody?
Did you do 2 efi partitions?
This is what it looks like on my end.
open partition manager
The unknown being the space reserved for Bazzite.
ih the 4th one
thats fat
thats where bazzite is
UEFI OS?
Like this?
press uefi os here i want to see the info
thats the recovery partition
waot
no thats correct
thats bazzite
does it not work?
It does not unfortunately.
you might need to check if windows nuked the folder
Have you checked the bios to make sure the right boot loader is the priority boot option?
I'm pretty sure it did.
I had to do that to get back to windows after installing bazzite last night
did the Windows recovery start?
for some reason?
that will usually nuke it
Windows is pretty mild
otherwise
I want to say it did. I was in a looping blue screen for awhile until it just booted into Windows.
By default.
youre cooked
time to fish a fedora grub from somewhere
and put it there
then pray it works
I would be fine to try, where would I get that grub?
@antheas Would it be easier to just to a fresh install of Bazzite? Would that wipe all my files and games?
yes it would
unsure of where to get it
one sec
yeah unsure
Damn.
youre the first one
yolo
whoops so the path is absolute
in the partition, you need to place the uppercase EFI folder
Thanks for the grub. I just extracted it.
How would I open the partition on Windows?
haha no clue
but let me know when you figure it out
efi is just a fat32 partition
Yeah because I can see that I am missing my fedora files using EasyUEFI. However, I can't just drag and drop your grub.
@antheas
you need the fedora folder
that has the main stuff
Right, so the main issue that I am having is dropping in your grub.
Would you be able to know how to assign a drive letter to the Partition?
partition manager, right click
It's greyed out.
man i dont know
I was able to drag and drop using Explorer++
!
Shoud I try booting it up from BIOS now?
Yes
Okay, I’m on the screen where it says “GRUB version 2.12”
Can you see bazzite?
I see the Fedora boot option and booted into it.
fix the uuid here
to the 1gb partition
Sorry for sounding dumb, but how would I go on about doing that?
get the uuid from something like partition manager
its this da6e5baa-a054-4aa4-814b-9aacdb1a6e7a
something like this
would it be this?
GUID:B59 or something like that?
its the uuid of the one that is 1gb
Is it the one that I have selected from the above image?
Should I try typing in that code you gave me and see what happens?
find this file
edit
it
replace the da thingy with what your 1gb partition says
thats it
da6e5baa-a054-4aa4-814b-9aacdb1a6e7a
this thingy
because its for my partitionOh, I see what you're saying now.
I need to replace your uuid with mine.
@antheas I think the issue I’m having is I don’t know how to boot into Bazzite from here:
@antheas
did you fix the uuid
If I can do that, then I’ll be able to boot right into Bazzite? Is that correct?
yes
just open it with notepad
Changed my UID in the cfg and nothing.
which one did you use
The GUID that I have listed here.
@antheas I appreciate the help, but I think I’ll just uninstall and reinstall Bazzite at this point.
@antheas I reinstalled Bazzite. If I were to have this problem again, do I just keep a backup of my EFI and fedora folders?
Try that sure
@antheas Thanks for all the help. Anyway I can do that while I am in Bazzite?
yeah you can open it in the file browser
