Wide pants fit

I’ve been looking at this from Blurhms and I’m wondering if it makes sense to size up on them. I’ve never bought big pants before so not sure if over sizing is common. I’m looking for a floating silhouette that let the pants swish as I walk, but that doesn’t look “crumbled” because they are too long. If that makes no sense let me know and I’ll try to clarify! https://havenshop.com/products/blurhms-brushed-twil-belted-trousers-black-fw24
blurhms Brushed Twill Belted Trousers Black | HAVEN

upsizing can be done for sure but with big pants if they are cut to be big and flowy they shouldnt need to be sized up at all all of my big pants fit normal at the waist also on the swishy part, thats going to come down mainly to fabric the pants you posted are a cotten that to me looks like its going to be stiffer. IMO for swishy the goat is wool

Ah that’s a good point re:fabric, I’ll narrow my search for that. Thank you! In my mind wool is kinda formal looking, I guess because I associate it with suiting. Do you by chance have some good suggestions for more textury material or casually cut wool pants?

probably but a budget would be helpfull there my favorite are my wool linen silk EK 2 pleats but they are uhhh

I think wool pants can be styled down depending on the complimentary pieces

also this fabric matters but styling is a big piece

I def get your apprehension but here’s a few fits of mine with some nonnative wool pants.

Budget for cotton would have been around 500 cad. Though honestly what got me looking was Lemaire twisted pants which a) are not wool and b) don’t seem especially flows and c) are obviously over that amount. I can be pretty flexible up to say double that amount if the material is more expensive or (of course) if I do decide to cop on Lemaire

wool is great for drape but it's not really swishy. If you're looking for active movement you'll need viscose/poly for that.

also be sure you know your JP size, my first pair from blurhms were wayyy too small for me even though the waist measurement looked good

Thanks for the advice all! Hmm didn’t know that about synthetics While both fits look great, I think I’m going for a style more similar to @oman121 ‘s relative @tman916 . Also why are your names so similar? Coincidence or big pants conspiracy?

@oman121 , do you by chance know how to articulate the effect of mixing cotton and wool like so? https://www.shopneighbour.com/collections/evan-kinori-mens/products/evan-kinori-mens-two-pleat-pant-yarn-dyed-wool-cotton-olive-melange

in this case it ends up pretty drapey in a good way because its primarily wool, but its less flowy because the wool is more like a flannel to me its thicker. ive felt this one in person it depends a lot on weave and how its proceeded.

NinjuryOP2w ago
Got it, thanks How does this compare in terms of drape relative to the one you shared?
oman121
oman1212w ago
its for sure a little stiffer than my pair softer and less stiff than a full cotten but not quite where mine or a full wool gab would be

Is there an inverse relationship between drape and active flow or is it possible to have high amounts of both? …. Super nerdy way of asking that question

it's possible, and i think more common in womenswear where pleated synthetic pants are more common

these are a wool-poly-rayon women's pant from jones new york. the overall width is high in a way that doesn't convey in pictures but the fabric has little structure and more swish

Got it thanks! I really like the second photo! think the silhouette that resonates most is still Oman’s EK linen/silk blend

(just to add more examples) the black pants here are 100% wool, heavyweight and they drape nicely but they don't move much. The cream colored pants are a lightweight viscose/poly blend and they drape really well at rest, and have a ton of swishy movement while in motion

harvesty's circus pants come to mind but you'll have to find a way to get them from japan (website is in japanese, or you can use a proxy) https://harvesty.stores.jp/?category_id=58d385d302ac64de9d000a86

theyr're more rigid but HUGE and also short so check the measurements if you like hem; they are "intended" to be worn like how casey, stevie or mooses (narrow version) manage, but if you have a long pelvis/legs it'll be cropped (me)

Nice My normal inseam is about 26 so “cropped” is usually just “don’t need to go to the tailor” length on me
zeometer
zeometer2w ago
you would not have a problem with those then - they're closer to a chino fabric so no real swish but they hold their shape incredibly well

Nanamica and The North Face Purple Label's upcoming season are a couple brands worth looking into as well, especially second hand.
