No signal after installation
I've been awake for the past few hours and I'm just wanna get this working. My bazzite is showing "no signal" once installation is completed and reboots.

This is what I chose to install
Everything should work
Everything should worknot really, steam gaming mode with Nvidia GPUs is in beta, as indicated by the red text I have no idea to what extent this beta is stable
Yeah I just noticed, most videos I saw had this enabled
If that doesn't work then I'm not sure
you should try the desktop version to make sure the issue comes from the nvidia-deck image
in the videos, was it the nvidia image?
It was
dang already? the feature came out like... yesterday or something
whatever, try to install the desktop version (no steam gaming mode) and see if the issue persists
if it persists, then the problem could be from elsewhere
:emoji_61: sure thing
Waiting on the usb to be ready
... ready?
wdym?
Using Rufus to flash the usb with the iso
oh that's right
it's been too long since I flashed USB drives anymore
since I use ventoy
I've been trying to use Linux for the past few hours with stream os and bazzite
Steam os didn't work out even though the website says nvidia gpus are fine
steamOS has released???
oh uh that's an old version of steamOS
And I'm blaming it on poor sleep
this is years old and not related to the steam deck's OS at all
I've been seeing people use this version onto their machines on youtube
i'm curious to see the videos

I tried SteamOS on NVIDIA hardware...
I tried SteamOS on NVIDIA hardware, it did not go well.

Here's one
Going through the installation process now
the first part literally says it steamOS isn't available yet
:emoji_50:
also no mention of the old version of steamOS
I'm a college student trust
the video is clickbait, the nonclickbait title is accurate
Question, i don't see my wifi on here
Doubt that's normal
where?
bazzite installation?
Yes
you don't need to configure the wifi in the installation of the OS
It gives you the option to tho
simply put a password, the volume you want to install it on, your keyboard and that's all
I know
but it's not a mandatory step
Fair enough
No video signal
what happens if you switch to a TTY?
Tty?
it's a terminal only screen, useful if the graphical user interface fails
you can access a tty by doing CTRL + ALT + F6
Nothing is showing up
odd
and yet you were available to see the set up screen
Yup
is your monitor... not a regular one? like ultrawide or very high resolution?
There's no way on earth it's my monitor
I mean... someone had an issue about display output, I suggested to use another monitor to be sure, and it helped
What the fuck
it doesn't hurt to try
Yeah it worked
it's difficult to narrow down the cause of the issue
lol ok
But it's my TV monitor
what is? the one that has no output? or the monitor that actually works?
The one that worked
And now it's just black
I suggest you reboot, since you switched to a TTY and other things
just to start fresh
So
Username and password
?
I wasn't even given a option to set them up
It's now asking for it
send a picture please
oh, I believe you forgot to set up your account in the installation
so by default, bazzite will create a user with username
bazzite
and password bazzite
IIRCHow can I exit this screen?
why'd you go to the TTY
Nvm
you can try going back to the GUI by trying the other function keys (F1 to F6)
I'm honestly just really tired and not thinking too good right now
it's ok, just take your time and don't make decisions before making sure of everything
Okay yeah I'm not thinking straight
I just found the no signal video issue I think
Nvm, it just doesn't want to show itself on my desk monitor
what's the native resolution of the desk monitor?
1920x1080
It should be
could be as simple as an unsupported resolution or refresh rate for the TV
My TV is the only one that's working to display my pc. My desk monitor isnt
That TV is running 1920x1080 60hz
if you have a second computer i would suggest setting up the ssh server with
sudo systemctl enable --now sshd
and then use something like putty (on windows) or ssh in linux/mac to connect to bazzite@yourbazzitemachineip
and then check on the offending monitor with kscreen-doctor -o
what the hell its doing for the offending monitor
pretty sure that still works over ssh let me double checkChanging the cable couldn't do anything?
what is the resolution for the monitor and what is your hardware?
and the refresh rate
1920x1080 up to 166hz
3060ti ryzen 7 5800x
16gb ram
B550 motherboard
ok the command doesnt work over ssh anyway so nvm
hmm that should be fine though π€
hdmi or displayport?
curious if one would work over the other but im not aware of any issues like that on nvidia
I just switched the cable, still nothing
The same cable i used for the tv
To my monitor
very odd
what cable though
hdmi I assume?
Hdmi
Works with everything else
does the GPU have two HDMI outputs?
Just one
could you please provide a picture
holy crap three display ports though
fairly normal on newer cards
and does your desktop monitor have display port input?
i know i know, but still, reassuring af
It does
I advise you try display port then
Testing
Nothing
this is bizzare
Okay there
hm?
it worked?
Worked on the 3rd port
ok thats even more bizzare
faulty GPU?
worked on in installer though
which uses nouveau
It can't be
bazzite nvdia drivers are the nouveau ones???
im going to guess a weird bug in the nvidia driver since the only difference between the installer and the actual installed system is the kernel version and the driver
installer uses nouveau
:KirbyHeadphones:
I still need to reinstall this due to my errors
if you ended up reinstalling to the desktop image you can rebase to the deck image
changing the username however is a pain so youre better off reinstalling for that one
(maybe faulty gpu with proprietary but not with nouveau)
(idk lol)
Hm?
if you dont want the default username bazzite (which you get when you dont setup a user in the installer)
changing that after the install is a pain if you want a functional gamemode session
At this point idfc
well you dont need to reinstall to switch image
Please explain gamemode? In a simple manner please. I'm running on no sleep
sudo ostree admin pin 0
to pin the current working image
then brh rebase bazzite-nvidia-deck:stable
to switch to the nvidia image
if you run into issues press ESC when booting (before the loading circle above the bazzite logo appears) and select the ostree:1
or ostree:2
(if the ostree:1
does not work) entry and run rpm-ostree rollback
to revert the changes
lastly to unpin your backup image do sudo ostree admin pin --unpin 2
what?
steamdeck UI
Isn't that just steam big mode?
no
it is steam BPM running inside the gamescope compositor, which enables lots of extra options not available in normal BPM mode
whatβs the link between deck image and default user?
valves session manager requires the user to be UID 1000
so you cant do the easy "make a new user and delete the old one"
and if you rename the username then you still have your home folder named
bazzite
so you would then need to fix that from a different user which you then remove, or fix it through a root shell without being logged in as the first userEh ill try it out since it seemed to fix the problem with the video signal
Doubt I'm going to to bed today
keep in mind the gamemode (steamdeck ui) will be the default and you will auto login to it.
getting to desktop requires you to go into steam --> power --> switch to desktop
each time
:emoji_61:
so if thats not ideal then stay on the desktop image π
As long as I can go back to desktop, it's fine
usually people use the deck images for htpcs or console pcs they dont plan to focus on the desktop much
I have a quiz on Linux at 6pm today so I just wanna get this shit done
its a manual switch each time you boot though, annoys some people
go sleep
I know
Too late now
I just wanna get this done and maybe I'll sleep for a bit
It's installing
Seems to work, alright then. Thank you guys and see if you can report this hdmi problem somewhere
great! you're welcome and have fun (and sleep!)
:emoji_61:
Plugged in my last hdmi from yesterday mess, this is the result
@Piezo
is your wifi working now?
it is
does the blurry screen persist in desktop mode?
this screen happens when using my hdmi cable
?
i had to use a Display port
no, i didnt check
Could be a game mode UI issue.
I had something similar on my ROG Ally when bazzite was still quite new.
But it got fixed with updates
Now you have Nvidia Hardware + Using HDMI which is relatively bad compared to DP + "Beta" stage of gaming mode for nvidia... So uhh, time will tell.
kindly check and share the result.
Give me a moment, my system is updating. I wanted to see if itβll fix something
π«‘
I think I found a fix now
Itβs the game mode, I put the pc on desktop then big picture mode. Works fine on my tv now
turn off hdr, your display and gamemode is disagreeing about it being supported (or turn it on, on both)
if its fixed by moving the mouse then turn on force composite in the developer menu once you enable developer mode in gamemode
Hdr is already off
on both the display and screen?
then try turn them on
try enable force compositing as i said
those are the workarounds to gamemode and the screen disagreeing
Where can I find force composition?
by reading the my first message?????
And I just woke up nvm
My bad
happens lol
morning
Passed that quiz yesterday so I'm not this dumb
