Why do we need to know the DPS stats on each weapon?
So, whenever I choose a weapon this statistic catches my attention and even though I know that DPS means Damage per second, I don't know why we really need to know it. So my question is why do we really need it?

My guess that DPS has something to do with the hitbox of that specific weapon I'm not fully sure but that's the only reason on why I think that DPS is there
I feel like it's very useless to have the size of the hitbox in the game, besides it's DPS and it has nothing to do with the hitbox, it should have more to do with damage. Thanks anyway

it's just there, almost every single game applies a dps meter, to show much dmg you are dishing our per second
or could possibly dish out with that singular weapon or move alone
But then to make it more useful shouldn't it say how long the slash lasts?

slash hitboxes don't linger
nor do projectile hitboxes, an animation plays and then they're gone
Im not talking about the hitbox im talking about how many time the slash lasts
