Connection issues - Bazzite Only
I have an ROG Ally Z1 Extreme which for the last 3 months I've been using dual booted between Bazzite (2TB) and Windows (2TB) and everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago and now I'm going insane.
Windows works fine but I rarely use it and much prefer Bazzite and the way it works but I cannot get it to stay connected if I'm online with other people. Here's my issue -
- Bazzite works great single player browsing and playing on steam. However as soon as I try to connect to an online game or use steam voice chat it goes haywire. It shows connection to the wifi and the internet on a browser still works but steam consistently disconnects and shows no connection to the steam servers. This lasts 30 seconds and then connects, shows everyone back online and then goes back off after 30 seconds basically making it unusable for online play.
I have tried, removing hibernation on windows, Turning off fast boot. Reconnecting to the wifi network and the 2.4Ghz separate network. Using a completely different router.
As I say the connection thing isn't an issue on windows 11 so I know this isn't a hardware issue and it seems highly likely an issue with bazzite.
Any advice?

When you disabled hibernation did you run
powercfg.exe /hibernate off
? If not you might need to also disable fast startup in Windows (different thing to fast boot). I haven't had the same issue on the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. You could try rebase to an older version of bazzite with bazzite-rollback-helper and see if your issue disappears if you switch to an older version of bazzite. More on bazzite-rollback-helper in the docs https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/Updates_Rollbacks_and_Rebasing/bazzite_rollback_helper/Bazzite Rollback Helper - Bazzite Documentation
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
Yeah powershell command for the hibernation and bios for the fastboot
I'll try a rollback and see if it helps but im backing everything up currently incase of the need to move back to windows fulltime. I will update
one other thing. Check that your region settings are correct in Bazzite, weirdly it can affect your network (I read this somewhere but haven't been able to reproduce)
But then again... this isn't a new install and the problem only started recently
Probably go back to stable-41.20241216 with
bazzite-rebase-helper rebase stable-41.20241216
and see what happensive seen this region settings thing on reddit. Just so im 100%. Where does this need to be changed?
Assuming that you are on KDE. It would be in the settings app and Country/Region & Languages section
Yeah thats all set to the UK and its measurements etc. I'll try a rollback and see if it helps
If the rollback doesn't work. It might make sense to reset Hand Held Daemon's settings to default and see if that makes any difference. Can't remember where the option is in the settings
Wifi is an issue for some people
Rollback won't help
Especially for the mediatek chipset on the ally
Yeah but they weren't having the issue two weeks ago. Wouldn't a rollback help in that scenario?
Unsure
Lots of people have wifi drops on the ally
Ok, anything else other than a rollback to help? That didnt work!
Steam does funny stuff with the wifi
It's just low priority to look into and very dependent on your wifi
slight update, noticed that steam shows an update from the 3rd December which will not apply. Gets to 15% then the steam connection drops and asks to reboot device. Once rebooted it shows the update again.
Any advise?
Use the hhd updater
Seems like wifi trouble
