@tryhardsoccermomswag Isn't it supposed to see the merged lvm already?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago

CheckYourFax•4w ago
I have no real experience with lvm
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Did I do it right?
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Ah yes that looks right now you're done and can boot into bazzite setup
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Mind walking me thou the next part too? To ensure I do it right
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
What exactly do you want to do? partition wise
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
C drive for os, 1 drive for steam, 1 drive for local file sharing
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
ah easily done in the advanced setup
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No description
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
C drive as in a windows dual boot?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No duel boot
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
ah you just want an extra partition for file sharing okay so Manual Partitioning Scheme: mount point: /boot/efi format: EFI system partition (also known as vfat) size: 300MB mount point: /boot format: ext4 size: 1GB mount point: format: btrfs size: [max] mount point: / format: btrfs (subvolume) mount point: /var format: btrfs (subvolume) mount point: /var/home format: btrfs (subvolume) This is what you need to do
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
How do I do that
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
just change [max] to whatever space you want available for file sharing @Xaniene in bazzite advanced setup
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Select all 3 drives?
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Wait.
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No description
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
you need to advanced custom you just select first drive because it will auto select the other drives needed now hopefully

CheckYourFax•4w ago
okay i guess you do ahve to select all disks weird @tryhardsoccermomswag please help
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago

CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
you need to create a new partition and set it up as LVM and combine all disks Create Volume Group I believe it is
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No description
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Yes
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No description
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
select all disks and max it out then press ok
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Done Do I give it a name?
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
if you want not necessary but you can
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
What's next
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Can you show your screen? I'm going by what im seeing on your screen because i have near zero experience with volume groups
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No description
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
You need to select the LVM volume the folder
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Ok selected
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No description
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Wait no this ain't gonna work I'm stupid you need to create the boot outside of the LVM can you revert? You need to make a normal physical volume on the boot drive with at least the FAT32 partition
asen23
asen23•4w ago
just install the os on one drive
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Yeah
asen23
asen23•4w ago
second and third drive do it post install
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Can you still make a merged drive post install?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
easier than fighting with blivet
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
i don't think so
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Ok steps please?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
you need merged drive?
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
yes but the fat32 partition needs to be outside of the merged drive otherwise it won't be recognized by uefi
asen23
asen23•4w ago
from what i understand you want 1 drive for os, 1 drive from games and 1 drive for sharing
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Yes No duel boot
asen23
asen23•4w ago
so in windows is like you have a c drive, a d drive and a e drive you dont need merged drive for that correct?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Correct
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Yes but you're going to be wasting a lot of disk space
asen23
asen23•4w ago
well yes but its more complicated than have a three separate drive thats what most people will do in windows
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
I plan to get a proper nas later
asen23
asen23•4w ago
you dont need do lvm on desktop
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
This is just temporary solutions
asen23
asen23•4w ago
this is not server
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
What I was thinking was: OS/bootloader on physical partition Volume Group with subvolumes for file sharing, home and games btrfs
asen23
asen23•4w ago
choose only the drive you want as os here
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
@asen23 can't btrfs do JBOD natively? that's basically what you're doing with lvm2
asen23
asen23•4w ago
dunno doing this is way too complicated
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
@asen23 the problem with just making whole disks with a few mount points is going to be wasted space in the end Like you don't know if you're going to use 2TB for file sharing and 2TB for games what if it ends up being 3TB games and 1TB file sharing that's where LVM comes in 😛
asen23
asen23•4w ago
make folder setting up lvm is not for average person
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
that's how it was set up before
asen23
asen23•4w ago
because they choose all drive
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
will automatic handle LVM if you select all drives? if so, then just do that all drives will be wiped anyway
asen23
asen23•4w ago
also rather than arguing
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Installing now let me get discord back up
asen23
asen23•4w ago
@Xaniene which way you want it
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
I don't mind losing some space if it means it's functional lol but I appreciate both of you
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
@Xaniene Did you select automatic? if you just make the LVM nothing is going to end up being installed
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
I believe so? I can handle the other drives once in desktop environment right? That's what I did last time
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Yeah If you went back and just select 1 disk and press automatic you can handle the other drives in desktop
asen23
asen23•4w ago
both will function but different drive will be simpler to manage than lvm
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Let me get this installed and discord
asen23
asen23•4w ago
@CheckYourFax btw can you even manage lvm in gui?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Sadly this is what I'm use to
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
@asen23 yes you mean blivet right
asen23
asen23•4w ago
no post install
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
not on the drive the OS is isntalled no
asen23
asen23•4w ago
i only touched lvm a little in my minipc/server lol
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
but any other drives will be fine as long as you are prepared to reformat
asen23
asen23•4w ago
yeah this is what most people do
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
you gotta manage your mount points if you want efficient use of the space on the disks @Xaniene you know how to do it?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Let's get discord up so I can keyboard be easier to walk me thou stuff at that point No 😦
asen23
asen23•4w ago
just mount each drive as a folder
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
^
asen23
asen23•4w ago
and manage everything else with a folder inside that lmao
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
as long as you don't run out of disk space you're fine with that option
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
You two are amazing Let me finish installing and this should go faster I am not tech illarate thankfully So I learn fairly fast
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
@asen23 best way would've been to use the motherboard's raid controller so it shows up as one disk in bazzite and you don't have to deal with OS level stuff and can just press automatic and you're done
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago

If secure boot is on enroll mok
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Secure boot is off
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
then continue boot
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Thankies
asen23
asen23•4w ago
what if one drive die
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
lvm has the same issue though :clueless:
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Galactic particle dust says hello
asen23
asen23•4w ago
well yes, what i said just mount each drive independently so if one drive die it doesnt take out data from other
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
true
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Are you two a couple by anychance
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
no lmao hahahaha
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
You should be xD
asen23
asen23•4w ago
lmao its just, idk why are you putting lvm and raid in desktop
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Don't worry I won't tell anyone
asen23
asen23•4w ago
that thing belongs in nas or server
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
yeah true, and you can just choose which drive you want to use in steam in anyway so for most games you're fine
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Woo keyboard
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
@Xaniene once you're on desktop, can you show your current partition setup? with the partition manager for file sharing you might want to make a custom mount point, for games its not needed
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Never seen the zram0 one before so not sure whats going on there
No description
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
just keep default /dev/xxxx mount point zram is used by bazzite, don't worry about it
asen23
asen23•4w ago
zram is your "swap" dont worry about it
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
the zram isn't actually a disk
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Oh okies
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
its kept in your ram
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
So Firecuda is my OS drive the other 2 nvmes are basically Steam and Lan file sharing so how do I do this correctly
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
just make a new btrfs partition on the other drives thats it the ones that are unallocated for the one you want to use for file sharing you might want to set the mount point to the folder you want to use for file sharing
asen23
asen23•4w ago
do this first
No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
then create a partition
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
but you can also just set your file sharing tool to use the default mount point thats probably easier yes, make all your drives btrfs and use all available space
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
?
No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
use everyone
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
everyone
asen23

CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Yes
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Hit "Apply" I Take it? or?
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
Yah disks will then be available from their default mountpoints /dev/xxxxxxxx
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
ok they are formating now
CheckYourFax
CheckYourFax•4w ago
file manager will show them in root in devices*
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Ok so Asen had asked me about the issues I was running into before I decided ot reformat so i'll go over those real fast Anytime the PC went back to the lock screan, Steam would break to the point I'd have to close it and restart it Cause hitting "Refresh" on the image banner would cause it to spam online users nonestop Sometimes clicking firefox would not bring firefox up, nor make a process, and I'll have to wait like 2 mins then try again KDE was starting to constantly crash more then usual Some minor issues with games that are probably resolvable with some minor help/tweaking Clicking links in things like telegram/discord took multiple times clicking to finally get them to registered I clicked it (not a issue with my mouse) Also steam would constatnly make me re-point it to the games drive and re-apply it to the storage area This could be a issue with the fact that I have to constantly enter the password on the drives or else steam wont see it so maybe this is something simple
asen23
asen23•4w ago
enter the password on the drives? wdym
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
if I click games now, it'll ask for a password
No description
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
if i don't do that each time I restart, steam wont see it
asen23
asen23•4w ago
oh thats normal you need to automount it first
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
and requires me to re-enter it into storage area of steam
asen23
asen23•4w ago
see here linux unlike windows doesnt mount secondary drive ootb the links in telegram/discord is web link or what links?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Yes just normal web links would you mind walking me though this part please?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
looks like its linked to firefox not opening
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
I'm at step 5
asen23
asen23•4w ago
you pick a folder name for your drives /var/mnt/games and /var/mnt/data is probably good
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
what if I just want it to be the drive itself?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
it doesnt work like that, you need a folder
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
I don't know if I can do it that way but atm it sounds like I need to create a random folder on the drive?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
but it will show up as drives in dolphin
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
ok so go to the games drive and make a folder?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
/var/mnt is special drive no just do mkdir /var/mnt/games and mkdir /var/mnt/data or you can go to /var/mnt in dolphin and create it in the gui
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
?
No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
change the path to the folder i mentioned open more
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
it gives error a valid path is required
asen23
asen23•4w ago
can you give screenshot
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
mkdir /var/mnt/games trying to paste this into path spits 'a valid path is required unless i'm doing it wrong
asen23
asen23•4w ago
oh dont include the mkdir mkdir is a command to create a folder
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
?
No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
its make directory yes now open more
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
ok its open
asen23
asen23•4w ago
can you give me screenshot i dont really remember the content
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
paste this defaults,compress-force=zstd:3,noatime,lazytime,commit=120,space_cache=v2,nofail
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
vanything I should check or uncheck here?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
its all good click ok and repeat for the data drive
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
same for data drive?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
yes the only difference should be the path
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
UUID for identify too correct?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
yes
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
ok done on both
asen23
asen23•4w ago
now type sudo systemctl daemon-reload && sudo mount -a in terminal and see if any error shows up
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
mount: /var/mnt/games: mount point does not exist. dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call. mount: /var/mnt/data: mount point does not exist. dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call.
asen23
asen23•4w ago
uh create the folder first
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
just any random folder?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
type this sudo mkdir /var/mnt/games /var/mnt/data in terminal and do this again
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/var/mnt/games’: Permission denied mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/var/mnt/data’: Permission denied
asen23
asen23•4w ago
add sudo forgor
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
at the beginning?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
i changed the msg earlier yes in the beginning after that do both of this command in terminal sudo chown $USER:$USER /var/mnt/games sudo chown $USER:$USER /var/mnt/data
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
just did this and nothing popped up
asen23
asen23•4w ago
ok good, check in the dolphin if you click the drive it should point to each respective folder
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Just did these
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
its good probably try adding the drive as steam library
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
like so?
No description
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
cause thats how I normally do it
asen23
asen23•4w ago
uhh try restarting steam first looks like it still detecting old path but yes thats the way it should show up as /var/mnt/games
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
open the dropdown
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
it defaults b ack to run/media but in the drop down it shows it as you said
No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
maybe its just internal name, looks like the path is correct tho
No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
now the data drive so you want to setup samba again?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Yes please but if we can make it not show all the other folders like in the past that'd be great I allowed samba permeantly though the firewall already
asen23
asen23•4w ago
can you use nano?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
(I haven't updated the os yet hopefully this wont cause any issues) not sure what nano is
asen23
asen23•4w ago
ok so do brew install micro in terminal to make thing easier
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Done
asen23
asen23•4w ago
after that micro /etc/containers/systemd/samba.container
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
it looks like that opened up a editor of some sort
asen23
asen23•4w ago
[Container]
Environment="SAMBA_VOLUME_CONFIG_guest=[Guest Share]; path=/shares/guest; guest ok = yes; browseable = yes"

ctrl + s
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
(I don't have any folders made on the data drive yet just a headsup)
asen23
asen23•4w ago
yeah this will share the whole drive for now or you want to setup specific folder?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Drive is fine
asen23
asen23•4w ago
ok, do ctrl + s
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
how i normally do it is just the drive (done that)
asen23
asen23•4w ago
it should prompt for sudo type y
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
it kicked me back to the editor and I closed it accidently is that ok?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
try cat /etc/containers/systemd/samba.container what is the output
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
[Container] Environment="SAMBA_VOLUME_CONFIG_guest=[Guest Share]; path=/shares/guest; guest ok = yes; browseable = yes" Image=ghcr.io/servercontainers/samba:smbd-only-latest Network=host Volume=/var/mnt/data:/shares/guest:z [Service] Restart=always [Install] WantedBy=default.target
asen23
asen23•4w ago
ok its fine
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
awsome! Whats next teach
asen23
asen23•4w ago
now sudo systemctl daemon-reload && sudo systemctl start samba
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Done
asen23
asen23•4w ago
what is sudo systemctl status samba
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago

asen23
asen23•4w ago
ok now try adding random file in the drive and check if its worked then you are pretty much done
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Do I have the roomies access it the same way like in the prior
asen23
asen23•4w ago
yes its the same thing but now containerized
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Moving some files now to test questions while I wait for files to move
asen23
asen23•4w ago
but now they shouldnt get prompted for username and password
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Will steam make me repoint the drive doing it this way or no?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
it should stay
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
oh thank god and what about the other weird Issues I was having that I mentioned?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
also doing one restart for sanity checking isnt a bad idea
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
(I'll do that after the files move)
asen23
asen23•4w ago
the kde crash is hard to diagnose without further info, the firefox i suspect nvidia not sure about steam banner thingy
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
what is equilvient to a 3070TI for amd? no downgrades plz
asen23
asen23•4w ago
Tom's Hardware
The GPU benchmarks hierarchy 2024: Ten years of graphics card hardw...
We've run hundreds of GPU benchmarks on Nvidia, AMD, and Intel graphics cards and ranked them in our comprehensive hierarchy, with over 80 GPUs tested.
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
(Kinda sick of nvidia anyways, every driver update breaks my driver or causes so many issues)
asen23
asen23•4w ago
obviously its not perfect but gives a rough idea
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
so I clicked htis but nothing happen and now i have to keep clicking it unitl it registers
asen23
asen23•4w ago
if you paste the link into terminal and ctrl + click it, does that also happen?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
works fine
asen23
asen23•4w ago
well probably flatpak nvidia driver lol
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
also if I update the system will it break everything we just did?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
the flatpak are separate from the system
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
ok cause I haven't ran the bazzite updater since getting to desktop
asen23
asen23•4w ago
if the flatpak is the issue then reinstalling wont do much you need either wait for update or rollback (not easy in flatpak)
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
I'm referring to the system updates mostly, I haven't ran that since getting the image back up
asen23
asen23•4w ago
the system shouldnt affect flatpak and it should auto updates anyway
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Roger, so the auto mount/steam stuff/samba it wont affect?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
yep
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
no its set to manual by default from what I see
asen23
asen23•4w ago
this is desktop or deck image?
Xaniene

Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
its always set to manual everytime i've formatted, I've always had to click "System update"
asen23
asen23•4w ago

Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
Roomie is testing file sharing Shes saying she can't access the files do I need to reboot first?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
you shouldnt need to whats the error and whats the step to connect again just confirming
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago

asen23
asen23•4w ago

Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
All the error said was that it could not find the IP or any files (which it is the correct IP just verified) so i am unsure on where to go from here
asen23
asen23•4w ago

Got it thanks so much Whered the other guy go, I wanted to thank him too ok so it seems the issue only happens on firefox if i install chrome i don't suffer the link clicking problem The amount of learning i've done this morning though holy my brain hurts
asen23
asen23•4w ago
yeah it can be overwhelming but if you take it step by step its not that bad
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
weird part is I'm a computer tech by trade
asen23
asen23•4w ago
for the firefox problem maybe worth opening another thread to see if other people have same issue
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
but mostly for windows 7/10 Primarly
asen23
asen23•4w ago
most of my windows debugging skill easily transferred to linux
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
I use to do virus removal, software recommendation, Software conflict testing, software anyalises testing, etc is there anyway I can change the boot animantion kinda like I am able to with the legion go?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
the motherboard logo?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
like when you restart the part after it shows bios
asen23
asen23•4w ago
uhh what currently shown there?
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
the bazzite symbol and some loading animantion then it goes to the lock screen I was wondering if the boot animantion can be adjusted to something like steam OS boot up with like Elden ring or something
asen23
asen23•4w ago
i think you need custom image for that
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago

How do i make my audio device stick when tv goes off/back on or restart
asen23
asen23•4w ago
wdym by stick
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
anytime tv is turned off and back on or pc is restart it defaults to to the wrong audio this happens in windows too
asen23
asen23•4w ago
if you choose here, it doesnt stick?
No description
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
so mine uses GA104 high definition audio controller but if i restart/turn tv off it will always switch to 'starship/matisse HD
asen23
asen23•4w ago
i think you can with some script
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
so I was wondering if theirs a way to default it to GA104
asen23
asen23•4w ago
but im not sure how to do that, create a thread probably
Xaniene
XanieneOP•4w ago
ok thanks, need a break atm before we figure out anything else brain hurts to much how do I close this thread/or mark it as answered ?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
@Xaniene to add account add this lines
Environment=ACCOUNT_username=password
Environment=ACCOUNT_username=password
and change the volume config to
Environment=SAMBA_VOLUME_CONFIG_private="[Private Share]; path=/shares/guest; valid users = username; guest ok = no; read only = no; browseable = yes"
Environment=SAMBA_VOLUME_CONFIG_private="[Private Share]; path=/shares/guest; valid users = username; guest ok = no; read only = no; browseable = yes"
change the username and password to whatever you want, you also can rename the share in the bracket like [My Share] or [Samba] or whatever you want. Also if you want the shares to be readonly (other people cannot add file) remove the read only = no; from the config complete example
[Container]
Environment=ACCOUNT_xaniene=1234
Environment="SAMBA_VOLUME_CONFIG_guest=[Xaniene Share]; path=/shares/guest; valid users = xaniene; guest ok = no; read only = no; browseable = yes"
Image=ghcr.io/servercontainers/samba:smbd-only-latest
Network=host
Volume=/var/mnt/data:/shares/guest:z
[Service]
Restart=always
[Install]
WantedBy=default.target
[Container]
Environment=ACCOUNT_xaniene=1234
Environment="SAMBA_VOLUME_CONFIG_guest=[Xaniene Share]; path=/shares/guest; valid users = xaniene; guest ok = no; read only = no; browseable = yes"
Image=ghcr.io/servercontainers/samba:smbd-only-latest
Network=host
Volume=/var/mnt/data:/shares/guest:z
[Service]
Restart=always
[Install]
WantedBy=default.target
after that you can do sudo systemctl restart samba

Xotic bork
Xotic bork•4w ago

Xotic bork
Xotic bork•4w ago
deamon-reload?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
this one if you messed up fstab you can have unbootable system
Xotic bork

Xotic bork
Xotic bork•4w ago

No description
asen23
asen23•4w ago
next time if that step spits out any error you need to either fix it or undo what you do anyway what is the output of this
Xotic bork
Xotic bork•4w ago
run it on a terminal?
asen23
asen23•4w ago
