Maliit keyboard gone

I did a fresh install on my rog ally, and the maliit virtual keyboard is gone, it doesn't pop-up automatically, its not present in the virtual keyboard settings, and when I try to manually install, the console tells me its already installed

What version of Bazzite are you on? I'm on "bazzite-nvidia:testing-41.20241231" (you can run rpm-ostree status in the terminal to check) And the virtual keyboard is there for me. I have an Rog ally where I can switch to your version and see if I can reproduce

Maliit removed again? Rip, time to manually workaround again Edit: this works
curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aarron-lee/legion-go-tricks/refs/heads/main/bazzite-maliit-keyboard.sh | sh
curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aarron-lee/legion-go-tricks/refs/heads/main/bazzite-maliit-keyboard.sh | sh
for to manually re-add the desktop entry then remember to set maliit as the virtual keyboard

cat "$HOME/.local/share/applications/com.github.maliit.keyboard.desktop"
cat "$HOME/.local/share/applications/com.github.maliit.keyboard.desktop"
Do you see any output? only other thing i could think of is the immodule bug, but that should've been fixed a while back. here's the old workaround, in case you want to try it:
curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aarron-lee/legion-go-tricks/refs/heads/main/bazzite-maliit-keyboard.sh | sh
curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aarron-lee/legion-go-tricks/refs/heads/main/bazzite-maliit-keyboard.sh | sh

It started enabling itself by default in KDE If we can find a better way to fix it I'll switch it back, but this is better than everybody having two keyboards

I assumed there was a good reason for removing it, it's just inconvenient for users that prefer it no maliit means no OSK for the KDE lockscreen though, which is unfortunate side note, I can confirm that this script seems to restore maliit, a user on image 20250101 just tested it

bazzite version the user tried it on

Don’t know if it’s relevant, but I’m on an ROG Ally X, and there’s no more on screen keyboard in desktop mode.

Did you already try this?
curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aarron-lee/legion-go-tricks/refs/heads/main/bazzite-maliit-keyboard.sh | sh

No… do I just type that into a terminal? Will that work on my Asus?
Aru

Yeah, while the script is hosted on legion-go-tricks, it's a generic script

I’ll go try it and report back.

So don’t try it?

hit armory crate + x or bind a button (like just x) to open keyboard in steam steam keyboard will open and function, matching how SteamOS works on the deck

Tbh I personally prefer maliit over the deck keyboard for desktop mode. But that's a fair point, the default recommendation should be the steam keyboard first Steam keyboard is kinda useless for the KDE lock screen though

Steam keyboard pops up with the left paddle shifter, but I remember being a built in KDE keyboard that would popup when I tap the screen in a text field. It was more user friendly.

issue with the steam keyboard, it doesn't move/resize windows to keep the input in view while maliit does

You can just use TPM unlock

I do but it tends to break whenever I modify any bios settings or the uefi dbx updates or the bios updates
