Did you install something like Fedora, Nobara, Kinoite, or Silverblue in the past? If so we do have a possible fix in the docs https://docs.bazzite.gg/General/Installation_Guide/troubleshoot_guide/#error-code-1
Installation Troubleshoot Guide - Bazzite Documentation
Bazzite is a custom image built upon Fedora Atomic Desktops that brings the best of Linux gaming to all of your devices.
this laptop did have fedora before
Then it's probably the issue that's mentioned in the video. in short if there is a /boot/efi/EFI/Fedora folder that exists in the efi partition the installer fails with a very un-descriptive error of "code 1"
if i fully wipe the hard drive, will the issue be fixed?
That would be the more destructive approach but yes that fixes it too
well that's what im about to do then
im going to try it, and see if that works
Good luck 🤞
thank you
hey, i finished the install. once im booting in, i just see a black screen
how do you fix that?
Give the blank screen a bit of time. It might be doing a bit of pre-setup. If it stays a black screen for a long time then thats a problem.
If you press CTRL+ALT+F2 or CTRL+ALT+F4 do you get a terminal?
If so, assuming that you running Bazzite KDE, you can force it into desktop mode by running
startplasma
and let Steam install and log in then try rebooting and the GameMode should workjust pressed CTRL+ALT+F3 and got a login prompt
alright, let me try that
Now I'm assuming that you using bazzite-deck?
well, now i am greeted with a black screen, but with a cursor, and the installation window
i got a few errors saying "plasma something unexpectedly closed"
the taskbar was there for a second and it just dissapeared
im using whatever this is
Ah that's a decktop image. Weird that you getting a blank screen on that one.
Sounds like plasma is getting itself in a crashing loop. I had that with KDE in my virtual machine yesterday.
alright, so what i should do?
Do you have any negative feeling about the Gnome desktop?
If not, I'd try the bazzite-asus-gnome-stable image and see what happens
well that isnt really that big of a deal but kde is nice too
"We're sorry, plasmashell closed unexpectedly."
and, there's also a network error from steam
The network error would make sense, since you can't get to the menu to log into wifi
i guess i have to connect to the internet somehow then, how do you do it through the terminal?
now im getting this
lol
what the hell is going on this os
I have never ever seen that message before
i guess i should reinstall the os
Yeah I guess so too. Maybe try the gnome image and see if you have better luck
👌
well, the reinstall had the exact same issues!
right now im trying to install the gnome version, hoping that it would work
