In my experience, the installers from there are more reliable (and don't have questionable licensing)
Alternatively try opening the installer from the command-line and check the output
Which one should I download?
What do you want to do with it?
No, the java file does not open as shown in the video.
the thing you wanted to open is an installer from Oracle's website, right?
Yes, I want to download JavaSetup8u421 but it does not open
ye
s
So you specifically want to install Java 8?
No, I downloaded it from Java's own website but it wasn't opening.
Do you want to develop Java applications or do you only want to run them?
yeah I know these binaries sometimes cause some issues
I want to run this because minecraft won't open
So you only need it for running Minecraft?
Which Minecraft version are you using?
yes
1.20.4 and 1.20.2
I watched all the videos on youtube but it didn't work
ok so I think that uses Java 17
these options should work for you: https://adoptium.net/temurin/releases/?os=windows&arch=x64&package=jre&version=17
Latest Releases | Adoptium
Eclipse Adoptium provides prebuilt OpenJDK binaries ...
then you don't need the one from java.com
if you really want to use the one on java.com, try running it from the terminal
I tried it from the terminal and it didn't work, so I experienced what you posted.
I downloaded the zip version
oh the msi is the easiest to install I think, I forgot to mention that
then let me download it
What happened?
Are these reliable?
which ones?
The one from Adoptium? yes
Which one should I choose?
if you have admin permissions, I'd probably install it for all users - that way it would still work if you use another user
I have administrator permission
ok I select it for all users
yeah
btw there will be a selection asking you what to install
ok i downloaded it
Oh
if you didn't go past that option already, send me a screenshot to check here
otherwise it's fine
I passed immediately
Nothing will happen, right?
it's fine
I would have checked about you selecting some things that might help for things to work automatically
what should i do now
Did you install it?
yeah
Should I try to open minecraft?
yeah
okay
maybe you need to tell Minecraft where Java is installed
but just try it
it didn't work
What happens?
same error
What's the error?
I think you should be able to select installations > select your isntallation > 3 dots > edit
then more options
and then configure where to get Java from
I don't have a java
click on the browse button
I want to download JavaSetup8u421
but it is not opening
okay
you don't need to - you did everything necessary in terms of installation
that should open the explorer allowing you to select a file
There you need to find where you installed Java
I think if you go to
C:\Program Files
, there should be a directory named Eclipse Adoptium
I deleted the java when we just downloaded it.
Does that exist?
What did you delete?
Okay wait
java
I found
go there
yes
there should be a
bin
directory with a java.exe
file
that's the file you need to selectOkay I selected
in the explorer opened by clicking the "Browse" button
when selecting it there, that field should be filled correctly
looks about right
save?
Can you translate the text of the checkbox?
that thing starting with "Java sürüm"
I don't speak turkish or whatever language that is xd
xd okay
wait
this?
yes
What does that mean?
Java version under control
I am not sure what that's supposed to mean so just click on save
Okay
I save
I started game
I think selecting it would show you additional details or something like that
Does that mean it works?
cmd closed and opened and the game crashed
Did it show anything
it seems liek that's skipping some check - so don't select it
No
I didn't choose anyway
where exactly did it crash?
id the window show anything?
no
a black cmd opened and closed
oh ok
that's something else
I think this will be fixed after downloading Java 8.
what can i do please help
I think you have some other issues
There is a program named "cmd" on your computer.
My user had changed, then I fixed it back, then when I wanted to play Minecraft, this happened.
If you open it, it should show you a command line
What happens when entering
java -version
in that command-line?ok so Java works
Your Minecraft version requires Java 17 (or later), not Java 8
Okay
you have this "JVM arguments" thing here
copy the whole text of it somewhere else (e.g. here) so you have it available later
and then remove it
this?
no
that thing
oh okay
these are options given to Java
-Xmx4G -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=32M
if these options are wrong, it can cause it to crash in the way it does for you
oka
y
alternatively you could go to your .minecraft folder (do you know how to get there?), open the
logs
folder in there (I think it should be named like that) and open the file latest.log - That file might have information on why it crashed
logs are recordings of what happened in the applicationCan I send you that file via DM?
yes
you can also censor sensitive parts if necessary
mightve crashed cuz of low memory
2gb
it also crashes without mods - and it crashes directly upon starting
From what they sent me in DMs, it seems like an issue with the .minecraft directory
maybe just gotta reinstall minecraft
or java isnt added to path or something
