Russian keyboard layout
Hi everyone,
I've been using bazzite for a while (haven't booted into windows for two months now, proud of myself), but haven't found a suitable russian keyboard. The russian keyboard in windows is (unfortunately) to my liking - I'm not sure how to name this feature, but basically, pressing ch results in ч, sh -> ш, etc. Akin to this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/russian/comments/txejfc/windows_яшерты_keyboard_howto/
Has anyone found a way to get this in linux?

closest i can think of is the backends used for chinese, korean and japanese keyboards. unsure if there is a russian module for them
for gnome it is
ibus
for kde it is fcitx5
not sure how much help that would be, but it at least gives you something to search up.
if the module is missing but exists in the fedora repositories then it can easily be installed with rpm-ostree
.
i mainly use ibus/fcitx5 for typing emojis 🤣Why would you need Fcitx for the Russian layout? Use the standard йцукен one, enable it in KDE settings
Oh wait. You're probably searching for the Russian Phonetic layout.
they are
and from the sound of it that kinda matches what ibus and fcitx does right?
IBus and Fcitx are IME frameworks, mostly used for CJK languages
What you need is the IME itself
such as Mozc for Japanese
yeah and idk if there is a russian one or what its named
hence why i mentioned ibus and fcitx to them, gives them something to look for
I'm Russian and I use the йцукен layout like everybody else. Russian Phonetic (яверты) is the closest as you're gonna get, I'm not aware of an IME that can do translit for you
We in most cases just use a transliterator website
theoretically such an IME can exist
