Sharing video with show metadata off still has the metadata in the playback file shared

Have not tried with images but just right click save video as and then using exiftool allows me to still see the metadata, is there any way to prevent this?

If the video doesn’t require transcoding this is currently unavoidable as we use the original file

stream copy remux?

Sure it’s an option but would most people want all their videos to take double space just for this? I wouldn’t haha

You mean in realtime? We currently don’t support that at all. Would be a big code change Can probably go in a feature request in discussions if not already there

also the duplicate thing could just be temporary for shares

I can’t give a timeline on it, but we intend to support real-time transcoding / remuxing in the future. This can be handled once that’s implemented. In the meantime, if you want to make sure you don’t leak metadata, then I would suggest setting the transcode policy to transcode all videos and run the transcoding job for all assets

idea: immich could automatically queue ffmpeg remux jobs for images when they are shared

It’s inferior to doing it in real-time, both in storage and overall complexity. It’d have to be scrapped down the line, at which point it’s better to do it the right way from the start
