Initial server cofig
Hi, so I have a virtual machine with mint 22 cinnamon and im trying to host a small server for me and up to 5 people that I know. I am struggling rn on port forwarding part, I've added 25562 to firewall and set up static ip but I still can't seem to connect even on main system (that host virtual machine) sould someone help me please?

Well Minecraft uses 25565 by default
Not sure if you changed that
wait yes im using 25565
but I don't know how to first get it to work for me and second to get it shared to others
the server is running tho without problems
What are you using for VMs? Is it on a bridged network adapter?
I think it is, that's vmware player

ideally, your VM and your host machine should be on the same subnet (192.168.1.0/24 in my case). You can check the IP address with
ipconfig on windows and ip a on linux
now when I've changed to bridged network adapter I don't have connection on vm
should just be able to configure it in network settings
it should get dhcp just like any other device on your network
if you're on wifi, you may have issues
no im on ethernet
have you rebooted since you made the change?

should only need to enable your ethernet adapter
for example, these two are my actual ethernet adapters
ok so when I set static ip for vm in vm network setting (in linux) then I lose connection, without it I have connection
@Snow Kit hi, sorry for pinging but I made it and it works for me. now I have a question: how do I set port routing so others can join?
@Snow Kit @Loudbook update: I made it work on lan, but port forwarding does't seem to work. I added regule in router setting and on sebsite my router ip to it but connecting via that made up adress covering my real ip doesn't work

nvm it works for anyone in lan, but not outside getsockout error
make sure you're using the VM's IP address when port forwarding with your router
yes, turned out to be that my operator is using CGNAT and I don't want to give to cloudflate all my data to do it, do you know any good alternatives?

btw any idea why when I turn the server down the process don't stop?
it was like 20 minutes ago and still not stopeed

do you know a little about playit? because I want to be able to reconnect to existing agent after computer restart
because I don't want to give them each time diff ip
never used it before. I just know it exists

just fyi I see command in the internet that made it as autostart works properly and it reconnects
