Steam Deck Oled HDR
Hello, I have one HDR game on my library, Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy installed through Heroic Launcher.
I just got my SD Oled and the first thing I did was installing bazzite so I’m unsure on how it works on SteamOS
I haven’t checked if this particular game has the game scope -hdr option enabled, will try in a couple of hours
What I can tell is that I don’t see any HDR options on my Steam deck I’m game mode, not on the right side menu nor on the left one
Only place I have seen it in developer options and it’s something about debugging, is it supported on the Os side? I’m I doing something wrong or is this how it’s supposed to work
Cranking the brightness to max also doesn’t seem to make the little HDR icon appear on the right side menu as I have seen in other screenshots.

there is no toggle for hdr on the oled deck's internal panel, it is always force enabled
and the hdr badge only shows up if you are actively viewing content that is fully in hdr
so it wont show up for only the steam menu or whatever
I see, then In that case I guess I have to add the gamescope-hdr option to my heroic game launcher of the game for it to work correct? Since it’s the non Steam version of the game.
Could I test it if I add Firefox to game mode and fire up an hdr video on YouTube?
I don’t think you need to do anything except add the game to steam from heroic
But I’ve not used the heroic flatpak in a while
I did add the game from heroic, but when turning the setting on in-game the colors appear very washed out, and the HDR icon doesn’t appear, I will try this gamescope command thing once I get home.
Alright I managed to get it to work by changing from the flathub to the app image version of Heoric Games Launcher but now I got this uh… this
Little graphs all over
You either turned that on in the developer settings of Steam somewhere or with a decky loader program, or the appimage has some weird overlay option in its settings
Oh! Of course I did enabled something about hdr debugging! This must be it, alright I’m all set then, screen looks gorgeous, thanks for your help @matt_schwartz
To anyone in the future that searches for this, if your game is non-Steam it needs to run in gamescope mode, with heroic you achieve that with the appimage or installing the flathub version gamescope, which I preferred not to do.
