Starting a breeding zoo
I have basic understanding on breeding and getting better genetics etc, but whats the best kind of layouts and information anyone can give in order to starting a whole new zoo purely for breeding and aiming for perfect genetics ?

Keep it simple. Basic grid layout. Keep everything tight and close, no need to spread out for scenery or decorations. Your goal is not making money, only staying afloat and breaking even. No need for much customization.
Save up some animals from other zoos to sell for cash to help get started, you'll need several habitats per species and lots of staff to keep it going efficiently.
Do you have any specific questions? Might be able to give more detailed answers
Basically where I'm at is, I have albio otters and have been constantly been breeding them, I keep mixing and matching them in order to try and get bet Size and Logevity, however no matter how hard I try they always seem to be similar (around the 80-90 mark in either) how can I be more efficetive in getting the stats closer to 100-100, some litter have ended up getting 100 in one stat but lower in the other
do I need to move the litter into another habitat and try mating seperate from parents/siblings
There is still a lot of RNG involved. You are never guaranteed to get all 100s even with 2 parents of high genetics. It's trial and error and patience.
One male and 2-3 females. Get your litter and keep the highest one. Move that one to a new habitat and place with another high state one. Rinse repeatedly into several habitats. Sell/release anything under 92 and just keep trucking along.
With enough habitats you'll have plenty of familial diversity so you can swap them to other habitats without inbreeding worries
Let's say you get one that's 100/100/92/100. You want to increase the fertility. So pair with something that's 92/100/100/100. So you are ensuring at least one of each parent has 100 in each spot.
Also make sure you are doing advanced research for the 30% fertility bonus
So starting from fresh, Male and Female albio otters. They breed, you move the best out of the litter into a new habitat pairing it with, who?
another from the litter that was good? or existing otter
Well that's up to you, the initial investment into the animals will cost some CC if you want to buy high stats. You can grab 2 of the highest and try from there or buy a high one and place with.
this is what i plan to work with
ive bred these myself however struggle to get higher stats
but this has all been in one habitat
It takes a long time and patience yes. And lots more animals and habitats
So for example now, father is 75/83/83/83 and one of the litter is 83/75/83/83, you would sell this as its worse than the father?
or the same as
nothing gained in a way
I think longevity is more valuable than size yeah
however if it was 85/87/83/83 for example, new habitat and start a new chain of breeding with better stats
Correct. And only pair it with another of equal or higher
so same as if not better pairing
Always use the compatibility meter too
okay well im gonna set it all up and give it a shot
4 habitats to start with
Sounds good! Just be prepared to get some crap at the beginning. You'll get a few reds and yellows in the mix. Otters are pretty easy to breed so I think that's a nice choice to start with
Okay thanks for the help
really appreciate it
just got a 100/89/83/0 male
progress
You can also use compare mates to see genetic potentials, and Otters should be bred 1:1 as they have an alpha female.
For genetics it is important to know that size and longevity are both directly from the parents:
So:
100/100/x/y x 100/100/x2/y2
=> offspring with size and longevity between 92 and 100 (iirc).
Fertility and immunity work with letter codes and therefore you are able to get those stats up high without having parents with high stats in these departments.
When I breed albino Otters I use 3 habitats and a baby habitat (but I am not sure if Otters need that), but you can use way more.
You might also want to buy some Otters from others once in a while to diversify genetics, but there are workarounds for that.
awesome information thank you, ive currently got to a stage where most litter is 100/92/X/X
but struggling to get the longevity any higher
Strange you should be able to get 100% longevity from there
all may last lot of litter have been a guarateed 100/92 or 100/83
Im trying to implement a new otter from the market just to get a new range in longevity cus im a it stuck
Maybe the compare mates feature will help you
what does it mean if its fading over to 100?
I think it means you can get 100, maybe @Meek 🐒 The Monkey Queen can confirm this?
theres a few like this
but some are just a solid 92
I guess you were right!
🎉
so absolutely no inbreeding with this animal?
Inbreeding will cause bad genetics
I have some otters that im not sure if they are same genetics or not is it only bad if it says inbreeding when you compare?
I'm sorry I don't understand the question
I think yes
Okay so I have 4 habitats, some are related some or not, theyve been mixed and matched a lot.
So when comparing am I just looking for ones that dont say inbreeding
or is there chance they still have some sort of relations down the line
and similar genetics
Yes, but that wont count as inbreeding
Oh correct, only if it says inbreeding
If they are 3-4 generations out they are fine
I can breed a koala F with a great Uncle M
Is it worth inbreeding just to produce more guaratreed 100/100/X/X
or avoid completly
I dont do it, but there are people who do it
most of the mates which do not produce 100/100 are not inbred
however the inbreds produce 100/100
I dont seem to be getting anymore 100/100 unless I let them inbreed which I havent done yet, is it worth doing just to get more or do I just wait and try get lucky
Im worried the 100/100 will die and then Im going backwards
same litter
think i figured it out
when breeding pandas whats the ratio in one habitat for M/F
you can find that information in the Zoopedia. You just want the least amount at a time when breeding for genetics.
Pandas can go 1-9
But most breed them 1-1
