Thoughts on this jacket?
Got the Barbour Powell. Emailed them with my measurements and they suggested M. I went with L after trying it on in a store and I had a thicker quarter zip on and found it snug when zipped up.
They didn't have M to try.
I ended up ordering it online for a better deal and here we are.
Looking for feedback on the fit and if you guys think it looks cool.
Thank you guys ... Almost xmas !

Looks fine as long as it’s comfortable
Tbh that green is too bright imo
Wrong
I just prefer darker shades of green/brown with Barbour jackets
Thats personal preference and not an objective answer tho
Yes it's comfy I guess I just have FOMO about not trying out the medium, but won't know how it fits.. the medium in green is sold out on all the places I would've bought it from anyways
If it's comfy I wouldn't worry about it, it looks great.
Yeah honestly it fits well
Thanks homie, I figure I'll end up keeping it just because of availability and I like the color over any other available colors, just didn't want it to look goofy so I thought I'd ask !!
Yea and he was asking opinions on whether or not it looks cool
🤷♂️
+1 to Maniac's unpopular opinion. Give Navy/ Black a try as well, unless you really like this shade of Green.
Fit is okay
I'll think about the shade some more and try it on with other pieces to see if I can build outfits out of it
Thanks for your feedback on the fit
why tf are yall even talking about color lmfao. Rummy if you like this color go for it, these clowns aren't the ones wearing it, u are.
jacket is decided, fit is fine, what else remains to talk about?
try altitude sports - they had good discounts on Powell few days back
OP literally said he liked the color of the jacket why try to sway him off it
I understand that, but then, that's what we're here for
alternate opinions
I didn't say don't go for this color at all, just give the other ones a try if you'd like
Feedback is always appreciated
Barbour customer service says the medium may have a marginal improvement in shoulders but won't make a huge difference on the fit, I think I'll keep the large under the assumption that it'll fill out if I layer with thicker sweaters
Thanks everyone for your comments and helping me
The jacket collection adventures continue
I remember you were considering Chelsea/ Powell last week or so. Good that you found a piece that you like.
I didn't get to try the Chelsea but the store I went to had a Hornby which was just too thin for what I wanted.
If anyone is curious the Powell is warm for sure, can probably carry you through a -5 day
Chelsea has very similar look and fit, besides leather trims on collar/ sleeves - and yes, not at all for -5C
I am still waiting for temp to go back to -5C though, oddly rainy/ warm atm
Yea I need a raincoat more than this jacket
I've been suggested Barbour Bedale/ Beaufort does the job
I'm not totally opposed to waxed jackets but I'm more interested in fabrics that don't require maintenance while also lasting forever, and I'm thinking gabardine could fit the bill
Wax jackets honestly require pretty rare maintenance and the Barbour ones are borderline indestructible
I meant rewaxing I guess, I hear every year?
I don’t trust Big Wax
Tbh I would just look into a hard shell from arc if all you need is protection from rain
Arc as in arc’teryx
They last a good bit
yee - i kinda want something without a hood though
if i did go for a hard shell hooded option, i'm assuming RAINS is a budget friendly option
Arc has unhooded hard shells but yeah they’re spendy
Personally I’d like a veilance monitor shell
One day
this is has come up in my research
They’re great
Platonic ideal of the technical raincoat for me
Rn I’m just using a beta LT
Whenever I need smth light to put on
Either that or a Burberry trench
One day..These days when it’s rainy I just wear my Patagonia fleece
In the rain??
what's the lifespan on goretex - i've heard something about delamination and my mind automatically goes to okay it's bubbling and disintegrating - but that's probably not the case
Idk I have a 10yro insulated arc jacket and I still use it if that helps
I forget the model name but shit still looks brand new
Yeah it’s a pretty good rain jacket tbh it dries super quickly and the inner lining prevents me from getting wet at all.
Plus it’s warm
I wear it whenever I go skiing
im kinda sitting on this https://www.endclothing.com/ca/apc-city-mac-cozba-h01103-baa.html?storeCode=CA thoughts ?

Ah alr
low tech, less water resistant but forever lasting ?
Yeah I mean mac coats are great for the rain
They’re a classic
But yea a beta is like what $400 rn
I recommend it, it’s gud even tho it’s lowkey ugly
I don’t think a beta is ugly
It’s just a specific style
Anyway imo rain jackets are more about function anyway
Ye for sure
You just want something that’ll keep your actual outfit dry
Beta LT ?
It’s just called beta now I’m pretty sure
They’ve gotten rid of the LT designation
Still basically the same thing tho
ok cool cool i will look into their line up
That's what is holding me back from Bedale tbh - the idea of not being able to even dry clean a jacket
But then again, everyone says they last forever, and look new after rewax
I’ve literally never cleaned most of my jackets and they’re fine lol
But I guess they’re not in the rain!
haha
yeah, a mental block in my case I guess
You really dont want them to look new, they look better beat up. Hell I spend the firdt decade of my life in the British countryside and all the farmers had barbour wax jackets. If they got a new one theyd literally over it with a tractor a bunch til it looked properly worn in
As an aside, Goretex is wildly overrated
true it's like a slightly more breathable plastic bag in terms of effectiveness
but still better than nothing
For truly shit weather I've been using the same cheap Colombia shell for ages (15 years abnd counting.) Nothing gets through it
Arcteryx you're definitely paying a premium for the branding
Interesting anecdote. Yes, don't mind something that ages well.
What would be your jacket of choice for when it might rain/ rains a bit and then stops. Specially for just walking around in the city.
Exact opposite of truly shit weather - when it's not even worth holding an umbrella but drizzle soaks through over extended period.
Personally, ive a big but not waterproof n3b parka for when its cold, and a vintage armani jacket thats similar material to a Burberry raincoat for more spring showers.
Umbrella is the most versatile option honestly
Yeah, I know, that's what has worked for me till now. Umbrella for showers, Parka for colder days. Starting today, it's cold enough to not bother with rains for now. Thanks! We now conclude OP's jacket feedback thread.
