Is FSR in Gamescope broken?
Hi,
I am using bazzite-deck-gnome on a Ryzen 7 7840HS with 780m iGPU mini pc,
I play Automobilista 2 (motorsport simulator) quite often in Linux, previously in Ubuntu LTS 24.04 and have now happily switched to Bazzite (been just over a week now). I really like the full screen game mode and the convenience of the Quick Access Menu for experimenting/changing/monitoring the effect of gamescope performance settings in-game with the controller.
I have my native resolution set to 1920 x 1080 @60Hz (vsync is off) and one thing I have noticed is that if I set the resolution in-game to 1280 x 720 and then use the Quick Access Menu to switch on FSR, I can see the upscaling and sharpness effect on-screen but I notice that objects trackside as I am racing seem to slightly jerk past. If I turn FSR off, trackside objects then pass by smoothly.
As an experiment, I switched to the desktop and installed the latest version of Proton GE using the Proton Plus utility and then switched back to game mode. I then added this to the launch settings for Automobilista 2 "WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=2 %command%" and then set the compatibility option to use Proton GE. I launched the game and tested again and I can see the upscaling and sharpness effect of FSR provided by Proton GE, but this time track objects pass by smoothly, without the jerky behaviour that could be seen when using FSR via the Gamescope Quick Access Menu.
I wanted to ask if anyone else has noticed this when using gamescope provided FSR and is it a known bug?
Thank you for any help, I am very much enjoying gaming on bazzite.
