Advice on styling this woolen vest

Hey y'all - travelling to venice in january, and want te be out late at night and early in the morning in order to make the most of my visit, which gives me the perfect excuse to buy some more lovely warm clothes. Wondering what your thoughts on this patagonia woolen vest styled with a navy peacoat and a cream waffleknit jumper (can link both if needed) are - I want to stay warm but keep my "old money gentleman" (girlfriends' words, not mine) kind of style so any advice would be appreciated!

Just btw this vest is made out of polyester, not wool. It’s still great though, I’m wearing the jacket version right now.

Yeah I noticed that just before posting. Bit of a bummer tbh, but I love patagonia so I'm prepared to overlook it! how do you think it would go with a cream jumper? (I'm no good at visualising fashion from images if I don't have them in front of me haha)

Not a bummer! Patagonia could make it in wool if they wanted but the material properties of polyester are better for this style of vest Since this is cream too it would probably work

may I ask how the material properties of polyester are better? not undermining their choice because they make really good shit and I'm not a fashion expert by any means but I can't see why polyester would be better

It’s much less absorbent And wool is more delicate Historically the Patagonia fleece is a rugged jacket that should be able to stand up to the elements and be easily cleaned—I run mine through the washer and dryer relatively frequently and it gets better with more washings. For the same reason I think it would probably work layered with a peacoat since that is another rugged piece of clothing, worn by the navy to resist wind and spray. But I don’t like peacoats so I’m no expert on what to pair them with. So I’d wait for someone else on here who’s more interested in that side of fashion to comment.

Fair enough! yeah wool definitely demands more upkeep (my virgin wool turtleneck is a pain in the ass if i get it dirty)

I think the main thing is the water absorption

I hear ya - gotta look at the historical value as well as the modern trends - I'm more worried about the jumper tbh because when you throw a peacoat on top of anything it takes center stage and works with pretty much anything

Like I can wear mine on rainy days like today and not worry about it feeling wet or taking a long time to dry

A cream jumper is super inoffensive I’m not sure why it would clash with either piece

I guess it's just whether they're from different worlds or not - the patagonia might be too rustic to pair with just a cream jumper which is generally fairly sleek and keep a fashionable look

If it’s waffleknit then it already has a rougher texture And anyway I think even a plain cream jumper can easily be dressed up or down I’m wearing a plain cream cotton sweater under my retro x jacket today and I think it looks good personally haha

Fair enough! And yeah after a quick photoshop of what it would look like (roughly) it seems promising! Okay so after some thinking i've decided to get a similar one with a lower collar (for easier layering) in a kind of rusty camel colour (they call it shelter brown) because I tried a similar Fjallraven vest that my dad has in that colour and it looked really good + I wear camel, cream and navy together quite a lot anyway
