Build not working, deleting the project not working
Hi, we have some Cloudflare pages connected to Gitlab managed by multiple accounts. We had a situation a couple of times the builds are failing directly in the first stage "Initializing build environment" with no error details shown. I suspect it is because one of our other users/accounts creates a new project with its own Gitlab connection. I suspect this because it started around this time. A few months ago we also had this problem and 'solved' it by deleting the projects and create them again. However, when I want to delete a project now I get the message "An unknown error occurred. Contact your account team or Cloudflare support: https://cfl.re/3WgEyrH." . Any help would be appreciated.

What's your account ID?
And pages.dev having issue?
Hi, account id 264b57a6f1a28b6ea01aa160d6f1bb8d . Not sure what you mean by "pages.dev having issue", the issue is the build sometimes not work at all from the beginning without any clear error, and when I want to start over now it's also not able to delete the project. Btw, it's also happening the same time at all other accounts connected to the same gitlab
What's the pages.dev for that project
It looks like GitLab is returning a 403 for us when trying to start a build
Usually a reinstall of the installation will fix that
digitalethics-agency-website.pages.dev . Btw I already removed the custom domain from it, and removed the more than 100 deployments. I just did another deployment to have the error again.
Btw, it's also happening the same time at some other pages and other accounts connected to the same gitlab such as hello-nostr-2fb.pages.dev from the same account, and ontvangbitcoin-nl.pages.dev from da6cf114d32934c8c1d3301b2cbaee5e
Yes, the gitlab implementation looks very buggy in multiple ways. And last time (a couple of months ago) "Usually a reinstall of the installation will fix that" works well, but now I can't even delete the project at cloudflare I am not able to reinstall it.
GitLab unfortunatley don't make things easy
Ok so I see why the project can't be deleted, it seems to be in a weird state
Btw, thanks a lot you are looking so quickly into it. What do you exactly mean with a weird state 😉
The pages.dev zone for it has been deleted (from a previous attempt) and now it can't delete it again so it's freaking out
I guess that was the first deletion when we faced that building issue for the first time
Sadly this will take a bit of work to cleanup so I'm gonna get this escalated into a ticket
I understand. Thanks for creating a ticket
I guess you need to know all the accounts and pages.dev url's that are affected ?
if there's more then yes :ablobsweats:
Yes there is, please give me some time to go through all of them
@Jurjen de Vries Thanks for escalating this issue. We have created the case #01300627. You can enter all the additional details as needed.
Hi @Walshy @nestorF , how are you? I have an update on this. I found a setting in Gitlab to revoke the Cloudflare access token. After removing it, it was a bit hard due of caching, but I was able to quickly click on the 'connect to gitlab' button, and by this I was able to authorize it again. Now the builds are working again. So there is no need anymore to delete the projects again.
But for digitalethics.agency the custom domain that I removed now keeps in Initializing state for some hours and the pages.dev urls such as https://89644f72.hello-nostr-docs.pages.dev/ and https://15eee250.digitalethics-agency-website.pages.dev/ are not reachable.
If you like we can also try to reproduce the issue of the Gitlab 403 returning. I think its because of another cloudflare user with access to the same accounts is using different Gitlab credentials, as the Gitlab credentials are on the user level instead of the repositor/organization level.
Hi @Walshy | Workers/Pages @nestorF . One of the team members, @Muhymin was able to fix it. He will give an update here how it was fixed. I tried to look into the support ticket by the URL received in the e-mail, but its asking me to login, I don't have an account at the Cloudflare support web.
Hi 👋 everyone! After @Jurjen de Vries revoked the Cloudflare access token from GitLab, most projects were fixed. However, we were still having issues with the projects hosted at https://digitalethics.agency and https://hellonostr.dev. One pattern that I can notice is that both of them are hosted at the Apex domain. The other projects that were working are being hosted in subdomains.
The way I resolved the hellonostr.dev project issue was somewhat confusing. I noticed that the problems with deleting projects were no longer present. So, I deleted the project and re-added it. However, the new pages.dev deployment URLs remained inaccessible. I then added the custom domain and renamed the project (from hello-nostr-docs to hello-nostr-documentation). After that, I retried the deployment. I suspect one of these actions fixed the issue. Both the custom domain and the previously inaccessible pages.dev deployment URLs began working again.
After that, I was able to revert the name back to hello-nostr-docs without any issues.
But fixing the digitalethics.agency project was straightforward. I just had to delete it and re-add it—that’s all. The pages.dev URLs were already working before adding the custom domain. However, I’m not sure if fixing the hello-nostr-docs project first resolved an underlying issue that also affected this one.
