currently experiencing at a styling plateau π
style creativity's at a plateau. π
hey, y'all!
I've got a passion for fashion, and it's been a good 10+ years since I started to focus on the way I dress. I've tried quite a bit of style/clothing from preppy, to emo/grunge to hipster/granola. while I've gotten several wonderful compliments from friends and random people, I feel as if I'm stuck in this styling plateau, and my creativity to build newer outfits or optimize outfits has not improved. I like patterns and boldness and I also love minimalism.
I picked a few different pics of outfits I put together to (hopefully) showcase different styles. I'm open to pretty much anything within reason.
can anyone give me tips/recommendations on what you could see me wearing or if I need to add or take away from my outfits?
appreciate the love,
Gary

Do you have some inspo pics that you like and would like to incorporate elements from?
What do you like and dislike about some of the fits youβve posted?
let me check my IG and see. I'v saved quite a few things I liked.
I'd like to pull away from wearing black so much and wear more neutrals or colors for the cooler seasons & even layer things.
I tend to repeat outfits sometimes based off convenience.
hey, I appreciate the love! haha. no worries, you're all good! π«
repeats aren't necessarily a bad thing! you don't have to be constantly wearing something different or new. if a combo works, it works. (serial repeater here)
@cats1312 here are some links to outfits I've seen that inspire me:

Rainy days and cord suits? π₯ Iβm obsessed.
Gonna share all the outtakes later on my stories. We got too many shots. The outfit and locations were too good for us to fail on this one. π Hahaha.

that's very true! guess I'm saying maybe I can reinvent it or put a twist on it.
Do you follow @watchingnewyork on IG, lots of variety and stuff you could experiment with/take inspiration from
From what youβve posted I see a good amount of casually implementing suiting/tailoring type stuff
You could check out some of Scott Fraser collection for the Tom ripley/west side story vibes
An easy thing to grab that would incorporate with what youβre looking at and what youβve already got would be a looser fit/higher rise pair of pleated or creased slacks
You can just throw them on with a t shirt tucked in and get a really nice blend of casual and slick that lands you in that modern 50βs revival zone
:nooooo: bishop nooo SFC lead times already too long :xd: , But I agree they have a vibe that fits with a lot of stuff here, even if you dont buy pants i have gotten a lot of good inspo on how to style similar stuff from thier looks they have great stuff on the site.
I donβt expect anyone to actually buy from SFC
Just look at it longingly
:monkaS: oh yeah of course... yeah yeah
I am now!
checking it out and I love the eclectic & eccentricity. I wanna be unapologetically like these people when it comes to mixing color/patterns.
the high-rise slacks has definitely been in my brainstorming process for building a good 50's fit. LOVE the vintage, Grease-inspired outfits. I have a few pair of patterned slacks that I'm ready to couple with a leather jacket, blazer or roll-sleeved tee.
I'll check out Scott Fraser and Tom Ripley-inspired clothes as well.
from the outfits you see, are there any of them that suit me better than the others?
I think Iβd worry more about which ones feel the most like you to you, then how to get more stuff that pushes that even further
I donβt personally think of style as something suited to a person in a vacuum, but more like does this style reflect the way the person wants to present themselves
And if not how can I help them get there
I dress in a lot of different ways but they all feel me
Lug soles on derbyβs could work with the casual suiting vibes too, similar to that last inspo pic
I do feel like this!
I do feel as if every outfit is me, but I was just trying to find an objective opinion & see if I could make it better, like utilizing different brands that are more quality-driven.
I've also been trying to edit clothes. I'll buy a shirt, but use a fabric cutter to distress or crop shirts and jeans. I'm a statuesque 5'6" and my inseam is 28", which is usually one size under the lowest (30")
speaking of, @cats1312, @bishopcorrigan, do you know of any brands that specializes in vertically challenged men (mainly jeans/pants)?
I donβt, my inseam is generally somewhere around there depending on the style of pants and what I want from them but I just donβt really worry about getting stuff thatβs perfect
If itβs really desperate Iβll get them hemmed for a few bucks at a tailor but I mostly just work with what I get and itβs fine
My recommendation would be to use other factors first before worrying about not having the right inseam since itβs by far the easiest thing to fix
gotcha. if I don't cut them, I've tried rolling them inward and using a couple paper clips to hold them so it's a makeshift hem. trying to be innovative over here. βΊοΈ
Yeah thereβs so many ways to use the length or hide it, not much of a concern imo
I wear a lot of boots with decently tall heels and then Iβm happy to have longer pants
oh for sure - that's definitely something I consider! all-year round, I seemingly stick to boots and thankfully I can still pull off a good spring/summer outfit since it's humid and unnecessarily hot where I live.
I do wear chunky-soled shoes for a lift. hadn't gotten to platform-height heels for boots because I feel like I'd look silly, haha. I can definitely do a 1"-2/2.5" inch heel, but 3"+ I feel like I'd look clownish.
