Dress Shirts
Looking for dress shirt opinions trying to get the best for my money. I currently have a J.Crew Bowery performance dress shirt which is ok but I want something 100% cotton non-stretch. So far my options I’ve found that I like are S&M for $58, J.Crew lid low for $62, Charles Tyrwhitt for $81, Brooks Brothers Supima Cotton for $89, and Kamakura for $110. All shirts would fit my budget, but if the S&M or J.Crew aren’t much worse than the rest then that would be better.

I know CT goes on sale but I need the item by Christmas.
were you open to secondhand? if so then thrifting and ebay are both options
Not a fan of thrifting dress shirts. Really trying to decide between these options.
otherwise "best" depends on what you value most - cost, how good the item looks, for how long you'll be able to wear it, etc
Hopefully CT does a 3 for $99 soon and I can be done with the decision. Best as in the best quality fabric and how the item looks for the best price. Like say the Kamakura is the best favorite and look and a 10, but the S&M are still an 8.5, the price difference would make me pick S&M
of the listed options i like kamakura the best; spier is also good but fit can be questionable (if you're used to how their clothes fit this is a nonissue)
you might be google for a working code for the 3/$99 deal if that is the ideal outcome for you
I really liked their shirts back when I needed a larger size but also not necessarily sure I knew any better other than they were better than the Kohls options. Does Kamakura go on sale often or give codes? Would love to bring that down to under $100
(i will again note ebay is probably your best bet in terms of "value for cost"; plenty of things in good condition if you check luxxswap or use the PTO shirt filter)
kamakura's BF sale is ongoing; if you're willing to gamble on final sale some of the shirts are sub-$50
What weave would you recommend with a tie, sweater, and sport coat? I’m leaning poplin but am worried it’s a bit too transparent.
if you're wearing an undershirt that will cut down on the transparency
otherwise pique and oxford (regular or pinpoint) are options
Yeah I’m not a fan of undershirts. Pinpoint seems to be a better choice. This is my first white dress shirt so I’m very new here.
i think the question depends really on what youre wearing the shirt for. it sounds like you want to wear it in a more casual tailored outfit, in which case youd be better off with an oxford or herringbone. poplin is pretty strictly formal
It’s actually for wearing to funerals, weddings, special religious ceremonies, and other special occasions.
poplin should be good then i think, those are very formal occasions
where an ocbd would look a little out of place
