Are you hoping to wear the sport coat to class, presentations, interviews, or parties?
This one is not great in terms of fit (too small), construction (glue), and materials (mostly plastic) but if you can better define what you're looking for, what sort of styles you are interested in, and a budget we can give some better options
To add, if you’re looking specifically at macy’s, I picked up this sport coat recently: https://www.macys.com/shop/product/michael-kors-mens-wool-cashmere-luxury-classic-fit-sport-coat?ID=15796756
For the price and the materials used on the shell, this is much quality than almost anything else you’ll find on the site.
Looking mainly for class and presentations
In terms of colors the grey/brown and navy would be a good starter
Brown is the best sport coat color out of the three. Solid grey and navy are better reserved for formal suits, which I recommend you work towards down the line anyways if business attire ends up being more prevalent in your career.
Any recommendations under 160?
just to clarify is this your first bit of tailoring (i.e. no blazers or suits that already fit you decently)
if so i would encourage finding out your measurements - either by someone measuring you in store or doing it yourself - and then checking secondhand or places like j.crew (discounted) or macy's (ideally for polo)
the most important thing is finding something that fits well, particularly your shoulders and arm length, as sport coats/jackets can and will usually need to be altered
for materials, wool is good year round and would probly suffice if you just want to own one
and as usual, you have several options between vinted/ebay/local thrift
Between charcoal and navy as my only sport coat which do u recommend? I’m not comfortable wearing brown and won’t wear it
The charcoal for sure. It’s a little more versatile and the black pants the model is wearing works well with it. You could also easily pair dark indigo jeans with charcoal. I do agree that you should ensure you know your measurements first and if you’re not sold on the options available to you at macy’s, then second hand is a great option
