Are messenger bags still in style
Hi folks,
I haven't reevaluated my sense of style much since the OCBD/CBD days of r/mfa. Are messenger bags still in? Looking to buy this guy in particular:

I'll probably wear it with an olive coloured wool coat (in the winter at least).

what are you looking to put in this bag
tote bags are much more 'in style' right now but if you've got like a bunch of documents to carry around then a messenger is fine
Yeah I need to take a laptop and a tablet with me most days
I like tote bags, just don't think they're sturdy enough
i use a tote to bring to work but it's kinda messenger bag-y
that roots one is pretty nice. my wife has a few roots leather bags, she likes them a lot
I'd personally opt for a backpack over a messenger bag
only reason i stopped with a backpack was i didnt like gettin all sweaty on my commute
I think messenger bags are fine. Crossbody bags are really in right now, they're sort of a mix between totes and messenger bags. Like this game bag from Lemaire, which I use most days to carry around my laptop, sheet music, and books:
Here is the Uniqlo U version, I've seen some people wearing it out and about in NYC and it looks good and definitely carries a lot: https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/products/E475461-000/00?colorDisplayCode=30

I have that drawstring bag, I wouldn't feel comfortable traveling with my laptop in it. No padding at all.
Ah I see. The Lemaire one has lots of padding. I think there are a lot of versions of this same bag with padding though.
that is pretty nice, especially for the price
I see people wearing padded bags like it basically everyday in New York.
i was specifically thinking about a leather messenger bag tho
people really aren't into leather that much anymore eh
yeah I mean there's nothing wrong with a leather messenger bag
I like leather messenger bags haha
I feel like classic bags like that never go out of style
they're just nowhere near as popular as they were in like 2016 though
which isn't a bad thing, it just is
Because they're just functional at the end of the day
functionally it sounds like the best bag for what you need
People who still hew close to the classic MFA wardrobe tend to really like these Filson tin cloth bags: https://www.filson.com/24-hour-tin-cloth-briefcase-20282279.html
So that's another option
the non-tin cloth filson briefcases are really nice too.
i think the leather will look nice, i think that leather in particular is kind of matte if you hvaent seen it in person
i'd be curious what kind of padding if any they have in the laptop compartment
awesome, thanks for the male fashion advice fellas
i think the cloth ones are nice too but i do have a hard on for leather
think i'll pull the trigger
As an aside, I'm a leatherworker and this bag looks great from a quality perspective. Really good value for the price.
do you do custom belts?
My one leather belt is from another MFA user who did leatherworking. It's years old now and we've fallen out of contact. Might be in the market for a new one someday...and would like to keep it in the family.
A messenger bag is useful if you need to be able to easily access its contents while on a vehicle/public transportation. It's not good for carrying heavier stuff. For a laptop and tablet + chargers I think a backpack would work better. Leather is fine but it's heavier than a canvas bag.
