QMK device doesn't update unless I reboot
I have a QMK trackball mouse (ploopy adept), and I've been trying to flash firmware onto it. When a new firmware is flashed onto the device I must reboot in order for VIAL to recognize it, even though I have udev rules that should be allowing it to see the device. Since nobody else on the ploopy discord seems to have this issue, I assume this is somehow Bazzite related

what are you rebooting? the mouse? the PC?
I've never needed to reboot anything when flashing my keyboards with QMK
The PC unfortunately
The mouse works after flashing qmk, but I think the udev rules aren't working because VIAL software can't detect it after a new flash
Have you tried restarting just VIAL?
udev rules either work or not. They aren’t in a half state of working one moment then not the next
Some apps don’t recognize new hardware unless the hardware is already plugged in when the app is launched
yeah, I tried restarting VIAL
I also tried using the web version of VIAL and it can't see it either unless I reboot bazzite, it's weird
I've also tried unplugging the entire USB hub just to see if that would do it, but no dice
I flashed a new firmware to test all of what I just said to be sure, and yeah. VIAL can only recognize the VIAL support after a reboot. If I remember right though, VIA (no 'L') recognizes it immediately, so idk what's going on there
could be a VIAL problem. I stopped using VIAL a while back and just stuck to the VIA appimage
yeah, I need tapdance unfortunately, so VIAL is where I need to go 😅
well, unless I add support for it manually, which sounds like way more work than rebooting lmao
