Bazzite failed to start sdmm.service simple display manager #question
Hi, I have a GPD win 4,6800u, 2TB SSD, 32GB Ram. I installed fedora (not dual booting) by formatting the SSD. This was the KDE environment. I then rebased bazzite. After reboot, bazzite showed up in my boot menu but when it is loading before I get to the login page I get the (failed) Failed to start sddm.service - simple desktop display manager.
I tried CRL,ALT,F2 and logged in via command window successfully but it's just in the terminal environment via terminal but I cannot get into the GUI.
One thing I tried was to go back to my original fedora, roll back, restart and try the rebase command again but this time it didn't download bazzite again and I guess used the previously download files, installed bazzite again and after restart still got failed to start sddn.service issue.
Any help would be appreciated

So you rebased from Fedora Kinoite? See if you can get into the desktop by running
startplasma
when you are in the terminalThat didn't work either. Going the nuclear option. I'm formatting my SSD and going to try to install bazzite desktop iso
The neclear option tends to work too. Good luck!
Ok everything is now more messed up. Can I delete all the partitions in my SSD without in the bazzite ISO installer? I tried deleting all the partitions using the installer it self but the previous fedora installs are messing with it. Can I use the command line if the bazzite installer to format the SSD then start new install?
yup you can clear all the partitions in the installer and let it do it's own thing and it will install fine. Obviously backup anything important before you do that though. If that fails, I usually use Gparted in a Linux Mint Live USB to remove partitions etc.
Thanks! The installer suggestion worked and Currently on fedora...gonna try to rebase and I'll report back
Lol new error
This is me trying to upgrade fedora before rebasing
maybe try a
rpm-ostree cleanup -b
that will cleanup temp files then try the rpm-ostree upgrade
Cool trying that now.
Is it supposed to take long?
Interesting timed out
Should I try rebasing bazzite without upgrading?
Well...gonna attempt rebasing without upgrading fedora. The current version is pinned so hopefully I'm safe for now....
Hoping the same error doesn't happen with bazzite rebase
New error...
Ok...gone back to trying to install bazzite from ISO. Been getting these warnings in the log for a while. The installer is still spinning though
Do you have a wifi usb, a xbox wireless receiver or a bluetooth usb device plugged in? If so try unplug that when you try and install
Ok thanks I'll try that
There was a dongle for my keyboard and mouse
lol if it gets to the installer having that unplugged might be an issue. Do you have a wired keyboard and mouse handy?
Well it's a GPD win 4 so it has a mouse and keyboard built in.
I think the warning might be for one of the build in ones because I still see it with the dongle unplugged
Is that debug network message anything to worry about?
The debug message isn't an issue in itself but I've seen the installer stuck in an infinite loop with a xbox 2.4ghz wireless usb for a previous poster
Just reporting back for anyone reading this later. Bazzite KDE 41 did not work for me...get getting stuck in loops during install. I'm gonna give GNOME version a try
