Recommendations to soften hair

I have hair that refuses to bend. It simply grows up and resembles a llama, an Afro, or a porcupine, to give you a mental picture. Are there any products that can help “soften” my hair over an extended period? For the longest time, I’ve been getting buzz cuts and keeping my hair short. However, I’ve always wanted to adopt this style of hair (see the picture), and I’m wondering if it’s even feasible.

Your best bet is speaking with a stylist at a salon, since they will be able to determine your hair type and see how your hair responds to product. Uploading a pic here would be helpful. What's your current haircare routine look like?

Literally no hair care routine right now outside of conditioner/ shampoo every couple of days.

Agree you need to speak with a stylist. I'll say for me, I had a buzz throughout my childhood because i had the same experience of porcupine hair. What I found is that hair that sticks straight out will still bend, but you need to get it past a certain length so the weight of itself will pull it down. Yours is certainly way too short to be at that point. A stylist I go to helped show me exactly at which length my hair will start to bend. Now I know that if I go any shorter than that on the sides or back, I'll need to go regularly for cleanups to maintain it Products can help weight it and put it into shape, but until you get more length you're going to be fighting against your hair

Fwiw, the buzz looks good on you too, but go to a stylist and see what advice they have. Good luck!
