Reccomendations for styling a stocky build?
Often get told I have a stocky rugby player build by relatives and my dads work friends because i have big shoulders/arms and im a tad chubby. Have always thought my fashion sense was lacking a lot but I'm not sure what would look good on me and too scared to be aimlessly trying on clothes alone in a store. Usually I wear just a hoodie or polo and black jeans. Looking for affordable fashion with a budget of about $300. Also round or square framed glasses for my facial structure?

sorry about my messy bathroom 😭, heres some other details.
i live in Canada.
i can wait for sales its not an urgent matter
i don't know my exact weight but i am 5'9 and i want to say around 165?
i like my jeans with a 34 waist 32 (i forget the other measurement) fit
the shirt im wearing in this picture is a mens large i believe
you can wear whatever you want man. It's more a question of what personality and lifestyle you want to project.
I think your current glasses actually suit you great, shape-wise.
The thing to look out for re: body shape is making sure the clothes are proportional to your size. Avoid looking like Gru from despicable me - spindly legs supporting a big torso. The pants should be wide enough to flow nicely into the upper body. Tops should be just wide enough to avoid bulging. And layering with jackets or overshirts can help give you a nice silhouette.
To start that process I'd recommend looking through #waywt and #inspiration to see if theres anything there that you aspire to
as far as being stocky, as a big dude myself I'd like to second what duck said. keep a balanced silhouette
someone in waywt was asking for recommendations earlier and I drew this. notice how a wider leg pant helps even out the outfit?
personally i go REALLY wide with my pants but thats a personal choice!
example: me in a hard taper vs an extra wide leg
thx for the recommendation ill try wearing wider leg pants
hey ive got a question for you bro
do you ever have trouble picking out clothes from online stores or window shopping as a bigger guy?
like I am looking at uniqlo for a nice jacket and pants but all the models are tall thin guys with small faces
so i feel like i cant get a good sense of what might look good on our body type
Id recommend looking thru #waywt if you haven't already. There are a lot of body types here, and your body type genuinely should not be a concern for styling yourself. It will be a concern for sizing sometimes, but that's why it's important to understand size charts and learn how to measure your clothes.
Here's an inspo album I (a bigger dude) put together that features some bigger dudes: https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1117803378521673768/1295253737669001277
Like carrion said, measurements are everything. I’m at a point that I have some brands that I know fit me that I really like and buy from
And alternatively there are brands which I love that I know wont fit me (zara and many high fashion brands)
But there are also high fashion brands that I aspire to that def make bigger clothes
So its not an absolute rule
Just make sure that when you’re looking at measurements that they are of the specific garment and not general (nordstrom says XXL is a 48” chest for example which is not consistent)
As far as what looks good, it takes time. The cheapest way is going in person to a store and trying shit on
And also identifying styles that you like
