Wurtz Reaction Mechanism | Organic Chemistry
The mechanism for a Wurtz reaction which follows a radical reaction process. The Wurtz reaction couples two alkyl halides in order to form an alkane using sodium metal. The mechanism shown is a single electron transfer (SET/Radical) mechanism, however, it is also possible for the reaction to proceed by an SN2 reaction.

so first Na/ether takes all the Br away, and then all the carbon radicals bond to each other for stability, creating that 2nd one
i guess by including heat in the equation they wanted to specify that any bonds to be broken by sodium could easily be broken, hence no Br remaining
@PeterGriffinItis we good ?
