Monitor should be 180hz, but I can only change to 120hz
Recently got an ASUS VG249Q3A monitor that is 180hz, but when I go to display settings, the maximum refresh rate it shows is 120

what are you plugging into the back of the monitor
hdmi or displayport
hdmi
yeah hdmi will cap the refresh rate to 120hz, id recommend getting a display port cable and you should be good to go
so everyone that plays on higher hz than 120 uses dp?
mhm!! :nodnod:
i've heard that its about the resolution and thing
like 4k and stuff
is it possible to lower it to like 2k or smth else and get higher hz?
naur, atleast not for higher than 120hz to my knowledge
not with an hdmi cable, dp cables are also pretty cheap
hmm
problem is that my laptop doesn't have a dp thing
i think some newer hdmi cables can offer 144hz but thats the highest ive seen
but my monitor does tho
ah, i think there is an adapter you can buy?
so it can connect hdmi from my laptop and dp to my monitor?
im going to attempt to post a link fingers crossed
k didnt work ðŸ˜
mhm! looks something like this
on amazon this one is around 9 dollars USD
alright
u sure it run higher than 120?
1 second
k
okay so its a little more complicated then i thought, you're gonna want one that looks like this instead
probably has to do with the extra power or smth needed for the displayport values
this is the little text blip i read on it from linustechtips
this is another similar one i found
hmm where would i plug in the usbc tho
is there a usb on your laptop?
yea
then yeah it would go there :nodnod:
so i plug in usb and hdmi in my laptop and i connect a dp cable from the adapter to my monitor?
the hdmi and usb would go into your laptop and the adapter would connect to the displayport cable thats connected to your monitor
yep exactly
alr
thank you
hope it works, this is a new task for me as well ðŸ˜
yeah np! lmk how it ends up!
