How often do you refresh your wardrobe? When does it usually happen or what events usually prompt the action?

oh my god i just did one of these!!
it was a nightmare and i spent more money than i saved in the end but felt way happier
i’m still working on one
i’ll probably do a lot more of it after i move wherever the hell i’m going
and get a job
wherever that is
Havent ever really done a closet refresh. I buy and sell a lot of my clothes but it never happens all at once. My style has somewhat stabilized over the past few years as I’ve been trying to consume more meaningfully.
I prefer to be a bit more gradual and slow with my purchases these days. Definitely has slowed down my style progression but what’s the rush? One piece every month or two and that way I constantly have something new to look forward to
i usually don’t do them much either. like maybe once every few years
I do one every winter and spring. once my attachment to certain stuff fades i can look at it more objectively and be like, this didn't work for me last time i should sell it
I usually cycle through my clothes slowly, like a couple new things in and old things out each month. I haven't done a refresh all at once in a long time
When I was a buyer I could order my clothes a almost a year ahead, so I would look at all the collections and then make a character/version of myself in my head and what I want to dress like and then invest in those pieces while building towards that vibe
It reduces the amount of impulsive items you buy because you start looking for complimentary stuff that fits within the aesthetic that you're building
tbh that’s how i work on my stuff rn, i just don’t have that particular advantage
(the time frame for ordering i mean)
i build my fits like i’m clothing a character for a show
tiny details and sometimes funny jokes you have to squint to see, broader ideas at the forefront
Doing one rn, going slowly due to time though. Go out to buy about once a month or two and walk away with one or two pieces.
yeah neither do I now anymore but its still the best way to go about it I think. Its also cool when you've completed a 'character' and then move onto the next one you will find really interesting combinations when you start mixing them together
definitely
Would
Ive lost about 40 pounds since may, so ive had to dig through bins of things i was considering donating for being too small on me to become the core of my wardrobe. And trying (and failing) to shrink jeans by a pretty substantial amount
wardrobe refreshes are good. similarly to many of you i constantly rotate through things, but there comes a time every few seasons where i have to look at pieces from an old style or theme that i no longer resonate with and bulk sell things off
i feel very strong fixations on certain styles and i think that rotating in this manner has helped me explore a lot of directions and helps me move past styles in a way i wouldn’t be able to do if i took turns more gradually
My wife and I do a "year-end cleaning" between Christmas and New Years every year. We go over the whole house and clean it top to bottom real well, and then also go over our things (camping gear, kids stuff, everything).
I take a lot of my clothes at that time and just sell them on Mercari, or occasionally give them to someone. If I'm really torn on something, I'll make a little pile and if it doesn't come out of that pile through whatever season it should normally be worn, I sell it.
I just did my cleaning this past month as part of updating the closet itself. I am trying to get down to even fewer clothes and I am hopeful I will succeed.
