Cleaning thrifted overcoat
I thrifted a wool overcoat and I think I like the fit. But it smells like a vintage store.
Any suggestions on cleaning it other than handing it to a dry cleaner

Anything I thrift that needs dry cleaning I usually take straight there.
if there's no lining then you can try handwashing it
If you really don't want or can't send it to dry cleaning, put it under sun for a few day. Also hang it in a place with good air circulation would also help. Anyways, a professional cleaner would do the job better and has less chance to damage the coat.
Def dryclean. I'd eat the cost, since it needs doing anyways
Thanks guys, will cycle to the dry cleaners tomorrow and drop it off
The fact that it’s winter now means the sun is not very accessible
Dry clean it for sure
Dry clean will not always remove that smell
You can try leaving outside a while
A vinegar + woo lite soak in a tub (I do this and it works the best)
Steam with a vinegar water mix
Hand wash
Hmmm I don’t have woolite, but I have vinegar
The last time I got something from a thrift store the smell stayed even after hanging it under the sun for a week
Do you just hang dry after you soak? Any specific to squeeze water out before hanging?
It’s pretty cheap
I just hang it up wet and let it all come out on its own after rinsing out the soap/vinegar
