Crash via SMM but not via Steam
EDIT: Turned out to be a hooking issue and rebooting fixed it. And, while the first dozen or so tests shows SMM failing and Steam launcher working, the issue later showed up via either launch method.
Here's a wierd one. Nothing changed as far as I can tell, but now depending on what mods are installed, my game crashes when launched via SMM but not when launched via Steam. (Either launch method results in the same mods being seen by the game).
It's only four mods that do this. I'd updated two of them, but rolling back to prior versions didn't help. The other two had not been updated anyway. A new profile with only one mod installed yields crashes via SMM. No Windows updates either.

hooking
Hooking issues can probably be solved by a restart of your computer or a verification of game files. Also make sure your mods are all up to date.

Infinite Zoop can be updated to
1.8.15
Update these mods, there may be fixes for your issue in doing so.SMM just tells steam to launch the game so that seems odd! The hooking instructions above should hopefully fix it
Thanks. I do power off my game machine every night, so perhaps this is indeed reboot related.
Actually... It's now crashing when launched from Steam too. Steam validation didn't detect anything. I'll try a reboot.
I'd always do a reboot first for hooking issues
Probably faster with modern hardware & definitely more likely to fix it
Solution
Reboot worked. Odd.
That's hooking issues for ya!
